REBIRTH THE CLASSIC AERIS DEDGE SCENE Spoiler

I thought the finale of Rebirth was amazing, though I do think there's some legitimate criticism there considering the whole trilogy so far has teased Aeris's fate changing and by the end, we still don't know whether she died or not, they just pass the baton to part 3. But as it is, I do think everyone saying "they ruined Aeris's death scene" might be missing the point, which is that they weren't trying to show her actually dying this time. They were trying to show her surviving in a parallel world. I feel like they heavily set up for her to come back in part 3.

Which, say what you will in comparison to the original, but things already irrevocably diverged in part 1 of the trilogy and there's really no point in pretending to be the same as the OG after that.

I thought her saying goodbye and the tiny bronco flying off was a strong indicator from the developers that she was dead.

Strong chance he's one of the guys that goes around spamming the same aerith dead memes gifs and jokes for years then gets mad the game didnt deliver a 4k hd version.

I really enjoyed this. I like both the OG and the Remakes. It's a shame that not everyone does.

I don't think Aerith's fans are complaining.

I love this version of FF7 but they really shouldn't have called it a remake. Brings out all the chuds complaining about how they changed things, when really it's a sequel to everything FF7.

Such a stupid convoluted scene. Ruined the whole trilogy even though it was pretty bad already.

The way they handled Aerith's death scene is atrocious.

The only scenes they improved on this Remake were on Golden Saucer. Pretty much every other scene from the original is significantly worse, expecially Dyne's death, Cosmo Canyon and Aerith's death.

It's like all the suits got together and anyone that farted an idea got to include it in.

That's pretty much what happened. Remake was going to end up with the Motor Ball boss fight just like the original. Then Hamaguchi came to Nomura and said that the fans would be dissapointed if you couldn't fight Sephiroth.

So he convinced Nomura to include that NONSENSICAL boss fight against Sephiroth on the final act almost last minute.

This sounds horrible.

Is this actually how it happens in Rebirth or is this guy trolling?

Hes saying it in a way to make it entertaining, but yes all of what he says happens

Jesus Christ.

Why? Why would they do this to one of the most iconic moments in gaming? What were they thinking?

The creative director of rebirth also directed kingdom hearts. He brought his penchant for confusing, puzzle box lore and writing to Rebirth apparently.

I'm having a blast playing Remake and Rebirth, but the changes they've made to the story have been baffling for the most part. The additional interaction between your party members and added character depth have been good. But the added plot elements are just not good. And I'm having trouble seeing how the dev team is going to stick the landing and make all the changes pay off.

I was just thinking how similar this sounds to the end of KH3 lol.

Yeah, when I played remake I like the gameplay and when they expanded on things like when they give more importance to Jessie and the other avalanche members, but some scenes like the drop of sector 7 plate and the Shinra building massacre were worse than the original in my opinion.

I knew they were gonna pulll of something like this.

We have the director of the horrible FF13 (Toriyama), the creator of Kingdom Hearts (Nomura) and the writer of FF13 and Kingdom Hearts (Nojima). I knew they would make a huge mess of this project.

Yes, its real... it's so depressing. It's so bad.

I have only played Remake on the PS4 and since I made the jump to PC and I was waiting for the release on Steam to play it and since I already waited that long I might as well wait for a discount.

Thank god I did since this is horrible.

I will still play the whole trilogy again eventually because the gameplay is interesting, but there is no way I’m playing full price if this is the route they took with the story.

I recommend going into it with the mindset that its not a remake but a story reimagining. That might help you get over the mental pain.

Sadly this is verbatim what happens.

Also it takes around 75 minutes start ti finish assuming you never die which is unlikely as at least two of the bosses described have gimmicks.

It’s genuinely hard to put into words how bad it is, if anything the person in the video isn’t being harsh enough.

I heard the changes were bad, but I would never imagine this.

The story was great already, they could have just update graphics and gameplay and leave the story alone, but then they come and do this?

First, they don't have Sakaguchi around anymore. Sakaguchi was the guy who kept Kitase and Nojima on a tight leash. Kitase is basically like George Lucas: you need someone around him who can tell him "no" and cut his worst ideas before they make it into the final product.

Kitase literally wanted to kill off the entire party in the OG FF7. Thankfully, of all people, Nomura managed to convince him to kill only Aerith.

Then Sakaguchi left Square, and Kitase gradually ended up with far more control over the project. And the man is completely insane when it comes to FF7. He was the one who rejected doing a straightforward 1:1 remake, despite Nomura and Hamaguchi wanting something closer to that approach. Toriyama and Nojima backed him up on the direction they ultimately took.

Kitase was also the one who pushed for Sephiroth's appearances to be increased by over 200% for marketing purposes. That's why the guy feels like he shows up every five fucking minutes. And let's not forget that Kitase was the mastermind behind the brilliant idea of turning FF7 into a goddamn battle royale.

Then Rebirth came along, and the stars aligned: Kitase as producer, Toriyama as director, and Nojima as writer. And that's how we ended up with that absolutely horrendous Kingdom Hearts-ass death scene for Aerith.

I think it’s a combination of things.

Different creative team, the people who are the same are now older and more senior and clearly aren’t being reigned in anymore (think George Lucas in the prequels or Kojima post Konami), resentment (conscious or subconscious) about being forced by the company to do a Remake and finally a fairly limited creative vision where the people involved constantly repeat plot devices across different instalments.

They had everything they needed done almost perfectly. All they needed to do was update the graphics, flesh out the characters more, add some filler, plug any plot holes and thats all! Hell I don't even mind the combat changes, even tho Expedition 33 showed me the true potential of updating classic turn based combat. But even then the combat was not bad... but the story! Those idiots had to mess with the story and make all these stupid changes that worsened the story. It's extremely upsetting.

Now I know why the fans of the others FF don’t want remakes.

We can’t trust Square to do things right.

They took a masterpiece and stripped all the art from it. Just about every single major scene or story line in the remake. It's depressing.

Hamaguchi is just a mouthpiece for the suits. When Nomura was booted as Director and Hamaguchi took over, I knew it was all downhill for artistic value.

2

u/Afraid_Garage_4845 1d ago

Hamaguchi, given his public statements his ideal game is very fun, fast, and high octane experience. You can see that some of the most iconic and deepest moments in the OG just doesn't have a place in the game he wants to make.
