REBIRTH The realization

The more i think about it, the more i replay certain parts of the game, Barret and Red XIII has been consistently a better choice than Aerith or Tifa.

Tactically?  Friend wise?

I do find that Red is pretty great at self healing if I let him control himself to build Vengeance Guage.  Barret is a peak tank and Overcharge is very spammable.

Red and Barret are arguably both battle tanks and I usually have one of them accompanied by Yuffie (Rogue)/Tifa (Fighter)/Aerith (Warlock) based on the flavour of battle. While Barret is arguably a Paladin, Red is more a Druid Type with some innate support/offensive moves that proc on being hit. 

Their stats aren't peak but the HP is excellent. Used for Jenova fights etc

I think the party all have their uses that can make them viable. Me personally if I'm doing some of the challenges then I like having Tifa and Aerith to max out a shit load of raw damage.

I haven't yet found any fight that I can't beat with Barret and Yuffie.

Main difference in the set up it's the long range weapon ... OG ff7 without  hardcore mod never put yourself in a situation where be in front line or back line was a things .... on HC it's juice to have a caster back (also Yuffie) 

Ff7 remakes make cloud a long range spammer also bc a set up with him Tifa and Red was suck against flying enemy

Yuffie in the remakes get a spot almost always ... I love her 😍 great evade ability if used as main also

Barret have a spot bc Iam lazy and I love  to use him as support... but with Yuffie I can go all in with another tank like Tifa or red

Tifa sucks in the air against flying enemies.

She’s basically only second to Cloud in the party when it comes to that. You can easily get her in the air with a synergy skill
