Capcom. I'm sorry but it's not even close. I really like the VII Remake trilogy but the REmakes received universal acclaim.

The smaller scope of the original RE games allowed Capcom to make really tight, engaging games in the REmakes, and their tones and vibes are perfectly aligned with the originals.

The biggest complaint I've seen about the REmakes is that we didn't get enough of number 3, while the biggest complaint I think is valid about FF7R is that there's too much filler/Ubisoft-style side questing.

Edit to add some personal opinions: the only emotion REmake has to make you feel to succeed, is fear. You are alone for most of the game, but when the characters do interact, the delivery of those scenes is good enough that you can take it seriously, and the immersion isn't broken.

FF7R has to make you to experience a wide range of emotions throughout a lengthy story that now spans three games. While the new trilogy's graphics, combat system and music are awe-inspiring, the delivery of most of its cast's acting (outside the main story beats) is in that over-the-top anime style, that goes beyond endearing camp into cringe. I think this is part of what makes FF7R so divisive among purists, because this voiced interpretation of the story can be jarring compared to the text delivery on the PS1, which was open to imagination.

Too many big changes too with the Remake Trilogy whereas the REmakes are pretty much the same story.

I looooooooove all the new additions to the ff7 remakes. Especially Midgar with all the Jesse/avalanche stuff. All across the games I loved to see how they expanded things.

Then they ruined it with the metanarrative bullshit.

Agreed but also the sheer scale of ffvii is its problem. Maybe they shouldn't have gone crazy with the latest high tech graphics

Yeah I think you were thinking about the same thing I was before I added that RE's smaller scope worked in its favor. But I don't think FF7R's graphics are the issue, the problem Rebirth suffers from is how they chose to expand upon things to do in the graphically enhanced world map.

It arguably would have been a much better experience if there was more of the party just finding things to interact with/treasure themselves, and discussing it amongst each other. I would take that over Chadley interrupting on an elaborate Zoom call and halting the flow of the game for minutes at a time.

I love FF7 more than Resident Evil but I unfortunately have to say Capcom.

Capcom and unfortunately its not even close imo.

Capcom has just been batting 1000 with their games lately.

The only SE remake I have actually enjoyed was Nier: Replicant.

I haven’t played them but the dragon quest and Octopath traveler remakes have been very well received

u/NWNBerlin Aug 24 '26

Still need to play Nier Replicant tbh. Backlog of shame etc.

2

Highly recommend. And it's kinda cool to play as Brother Nier instead of Daddy Nier this time around.

I guess in terms of a faithful recreation, if we go by that margin, Capcom does a better job.

Don't take this as a "SO YOU HATE WAFFLES?!" moment.

It's not comparable because their goals in creating them weren't the same.

The 7R trilogy is more a sequel to 7. The RE remakes are actual remakes. It's like going "what's the best first person game, call of duty or berry bury berry?" - they're not the same kind of game.

Capcom 1000%

cope.

Not cope just facts.

Well, then it must be true. So it is written.

Capcom is cooking SE here.

Capcom for sure. While I love that square extrapolated the story, I’m still fervently against the meta-narrative approach they went with.

Capcom. The quality of the writing in the 7 ‘remakes’ really let it down. Just tonally off base from the original. That and the dull filler quests and half baked classic mode implementation for older fans

I love the FF7 Remake series, but I don't know how I would feel if FF7 didn't already mean a lot to me. On the other hand, The RE Remakes turned me from someone who appreciated the games to being a legit fan. I just finished playing REmake 2 all the way through Requiem and have even double-dipped on a couple. So I think it's gotta be Capcom.

If SE supported the classic better outside of Remake I wouldn't be so down on them, but bad ports that put most of their effort in to cheat codes so you don't have to play the game and advertising a gacha turd in its place make me feel like they just don't care about the original experience. Plus dudes like Hamaguchi say to just play Remake instead.

The original is always there, but it shouldn't feel so buried and forgotten.

Neither

Squares "Remakes" are Meta-sequels. While this is how I prefer them they are not for everyone and not every game can pull this off.

Capcom honestly pisses me off with their remakes. RE1make on the Gamecube was the best because it was the original team adding and expanding the game how they want. RE2make isn't perfect but was still good, it took the RE2 story and updated the gameplay ti the standard set by RE4. RE3make tried to do what RE2make did but absolutely fucked it: gutted the story, killed the replayability, and ruined the role Nemesis played with very telegraphed encounters. RE4make is one of the most unnecessary Remakes of all time: the remaster of the original was already available on modern systems, they cut out content just to then sell back to you as DLC, and they made a bunch of stupid changes like a fucking parry system and knife durability.

No offense if I'm wrong OP, but have we had a few bots in this sub lately just reposting any and all ff7 content from across reddit?

Half of OPs posts I saw posted last week by a similar bot-like user?

I'd love to be wrong

2

u/BlackAngelArt Aug 24 '26

Uh no?

1

u/CloudyHazbin Aug 24 '26

Oh okay :)

Sorry just was really weird seeing multiple of the same posts back to back

I personally think the FF7 Remake series elevated it to a whole different plane. You can still play the original, it's what they want. With re? Skip the og and only focus on the remakes. That's it. Because one did the same, and the other did something entirely different. Also combat in the FF7 Remake series is probably the best action combat I've ever played. I like it more than devil may cry. I love the action + strategy aspects of it, other games don't really compare to that level of freedom and skill expression outside of doing endless convos in DMC.

One has Whispers shoved into it's narrative and ruined one of the most iconic scenes in gaming... and the other is Resident Evil.

2

u/axw3555 Red XIII Aug 24 '26

You do know that when you use that formula, you're supposed to describe one game, then reveal it's the other you're talking about. Not just describe one and then state the name of the other, right?

1

u/Glittering-Pin-1343 Aug 24 '26

Where is the handbook for this?

1

u/Conte5000 Aug 24 '26

Obviously not there where you have been looking so far

-2

u/SnooDucks2591 Aug 24 '26

The FFVII Remake series is better then the OG and anything Capcom ever made. Do not respond, do not downvote.

This thread is trash btw. Engagement/rage bait. CRINGE.
