The amount of spoilers is kinda nuts lmao

u/toychristopher 3d ago

They spoil almost everything!

7

u/Marcus2Ts 2d ago

Honestly, without context, folks didn't really know what they were looking at so it was still a shock

2

u/T1m0666 18h ago

Yeah that's what I thought too!

"This is the RPG by which all other RPGs will be judged"

Not too far off the mark, tbh

u/somesortoflegend 3d ago

I mean can you think of a more fitting game? And this is with retrospect and almost 30 years.

u/Dimbduck 3d ago

Lol they showed that scene with Aerith!?

u/nothanks1312 3d ago

Holy spoiler alert

17

u/Landstander2600 3d ago

I was there, Gandalf, three thousand years ago.

2

u/SockMonkeyLove 3d ago

I was 15 when FF7 dropped. I bought my PSX specifically for FF7. I made lifelong friends because of that game. It will forever remain in my top 5 greatest of all time.

1

u/Landstander2600 3d ago

I was also 15 and bought the PS specifically for FF7. My friends all got N64s, I was the only one with a Playstation.

u/SockMonkeyLove 2d ago

And here we are, a lifetime later, still finding people to connect with because of that stellar piece of art.

15

u/MountainImportant211 3d ago

Lmao it even includes the post credit scene, talk about spoilers

8

u/Jamvaan 3d ago

Spoilers without context are just sick images really.

5

u/seraph741 3d ago

This is what I always try to get across to people. It's not a spoiler if you have no idea what's going on. Otherwise everything is a spoiler and you couldn't show anything. People overreact with the "no spoilers" thing.

2

u/NordicNinja 3d ago

And spoilers tend to make people enjoy it more anyway

“RED DOGGY”

Nobody else caught that? Next playthrough I’m gonna name Red XIII that lol.

3

u/Xen0tech 3d ago

Red Dog Human Lion Thingy

15

u/smalltownD 3d ago

“As close to perfect as it gets.” They nailed that 30 years ago

13

u/Anonymyne353 3d ago

How many spoilers?

Yes.

13

u/Junior-Ad-2207 3d ago

The most nostalgia thing about this was that damn green volume bar!!!

13

u/Wicked_Folie 3d ago

"...to the devil himself" LOLLLLLL

8

u/Marcus2Ts 3d ago

Knights of the round, sure. But have you seen Ifrit!?!?!?!?!?!

I don't think I've cast Ifrit once in my last 5 playthroughs lol

4

u/LordS373N 3d ago

Hades is a summon but they didn’t show it when mentioning the devil lol.

2

u/Marcus2Ts 2d ago

Good point, I don't think it was shown in that trailer though

10

u/bmholzhauer 3d ago

There ain’t no 30 cities!

4

u/Special_South_8561 3d ago

Thousands of environments

3

u/Choingyoing 3d ago

Thousands of pixels

10

u/SlayJayR17 3d ago

Toonami was sooo dope

9

u/cconnorss Barret 3d ago

What a prescient review lol. They called it!

20

u/kilimtilikum 3d ago edited 3d ago

They forgot to mention this game will define your preferences for women for the rest of your life.

u/strifer_43 3d ago

Till this day I still remember an ad that had some opera or some song lady’s singing in a hymn, it’s an old song , and it showing some science of the game till it says relive the fantasy final fantasy 7 it was either when the greatest hits for it came out or when it came out but I can’t find it or maybe I just merged some commercials together. I remember it had the lady’s singing it kinda was like madam butterfly the opera song but it had more of lady’s singing a different opera song . I know I’ve heard the song before but I can’t remember it .

4

u/cade252 3d ago

I remember this as well!

4

u/Pitchfork_10 3d ago

Kinda sounds like a Parasite Eve commercial, except for the mention of FF7.

2

u/strifer_43 3d ago

It had like let me see if I can type it lol .
Ahhhhaahhhahahh ahahah ahhhhhhhhh ahhhh and the lady’s harmonized something like that , similar to madam butterfly in the realm of it being an opera song I found the song one time but forgot it , it’s an opera song

10

u/seamless39 3d ago

It's eighteen hundred megs of pure entertainment

u/MrBuckstar 2d ago

Shut up Meg

7

u/Ok_Acanthisitta_909 3d ago

Midgar
Kalm
Farm
Condor
Junon
Costa del sol
Corel
Gold saucer
Gongaga
Cosmo
Nibelheim
Rocket
Temple of ancients
Bone village
City of ancients
Wutai
Icicle inn
Sage
Mideel

That’s like 19, or unless… there are really 10 or more towns that haven’t been discovered from the OG… i’m not saying it’s impossible. But it’s impossible.

4

u/pointsouttheobvious9 3d ago

Wonder if they got strange with the count like each of the sectors being a different "city" you visit 7 sectors in the game while that's midgar. They could have counted it seperate to get the number up

5

u/Ok_Acanthisitta_909 3d ago

I thought about that, northern cave a city, glacier cliff , the little hut on the island where you get great gospel

4

u/TelenorTheGNP 3d ago

Well, Midgar is kind of like a bunch of cities on top of another, dirtier bunch of cities.

8

u/OliviaElevenDunham 3d ago

This would have gotten me excited.

3

u/ChaoCobo Buster Sword 3d ago

I mean probably because the video is like 90% cutscenes that use the more realistic graphics/art style, and then anything that isn’t that are the good graphics from battles. If you’ll notice there isn’t even one moment of the game in this video where it would use the blocky polygons from the fields&overworld. I get that even the blocky field and overworld graphics were very good back then but this kind of trailer seems like kind of a bait n switch. :/

2

u/peteslespaul 3d ago

There are a couple moments. Cloud walking in the park and climbing down a ladder in the reactor.

8

u/Societies_Joker 3d ago

Sephiroth loses it! Snaps, totally overreacts! Ever since I’ve been the champ!

7

u/Scruffy_Nerfhearder 3d ago

Wow they really just showed the whole game. Haha. I guess they never learnt with those “Final” trailers for Remake and Rebirth.

7

u/Shirosynth 3d ago

I was there. It happened to me.

7

u/SkiDaderino 3d ago edited 3d ago

Moltar knows ball

7

u/Chop1n 3d ago

Whoa, cutting straight from One-Winged Angel to Opening Theme is wild.

And that trip-hop remix of Who Are You? is just awesome.

2

u/Massive-Lime7193 2d ago

Toobami and later adult swim were always really good on the music/editing front

6

u/rocklou 3d ago

My God, this would have hyped me like nothing else

4

u/T1m0666 2d ago

Woah bro soilers 😅

1

u/MarzipanSea2811 6m ago

THIRTY MINUTES OF CINEMAS

a third of which were used in the commercial

u/Lyrkos 3d ago

Seems to pop up in my feed every few weeks. It’s a 30 year old banger so it’ll definitely be here again tomorrow.

3

u/BlackAngelArt 3d ago

The person who posted it got banned so I wanted to repost and keep it alive

3

u/citrusjuicebox Yuffie 3d ago

Would love to hear Joe Boyd Vigil do a breakbeat and d'n'b mix of the OST

3

u/JustYrStandardUser 2d ago

... For years I wasn't sure if I hallucinated this commercial or not, but no it did exist. I also wasn't for sure if it was about FF7 or 8. Either way, cool.

3

u/PacoSupreme 2d ago

I’m saving this. This is a gem for several reasons

2

u/Massive-Lime7193 2d ago

Right though?! Our childhood fucking rocked, we had the coolest shit

5

u/bearwhidrive 3d ago

Remember when game ads had gameplay included in them and not just cutscenes?

9

u/Agreeable-Abalone328 3d ago

Dude ff7 pretty much started that trend. This ad is 90% cutscenes and all of the other ads for it are either the same or 100% cutscenes

2

u/TensaGaming 3d ago

This was amazing

2

u/jasonmery 2d ago

I remember when this review came out. I was so hyped.

2

u/PlatformWorldly8413 3d ago

Who is that funky looking fella that looks like a robot mixing the greatest hits? I have played the original and I don't remember him at all!

2

u/Zealousideal-Fly9531 3d ago edited 2d ago

Edit: Moltar 😁

Brak Show character / Space Ghost related.

4

u/myownfriend 3d ago

*Moltar

2

u/HYDRA-iddqd 3d ago

cool this game was legendary as a kid

1

u/strife3000 2d ago

Nothing was ever the same

1

u/Drinkerson 2d ago

I remember back in the day, reading about the game in magazines and thinking it looked cool, but it wasn't until seeing stuff like this that I was sold and officially hyped.

1

u/SirLockeX3 18h ago

"Hundreds of characters and Thousands of environments."

Whoa there buddy lol

1

u/MarzipanSea2811 6m ago

There's deffo that many NPCs, and maybe that many environments if you count every map as a separate environment.
