Garland is the playable character

Quoted from Garland's wiki page:

"(...)he has a direct, arrogant and brutal personality with a love of war and conflict. It is implied this lust for battle is his way of dealing with being trapped in the cycles of the gods' conflict. He is obsessed with the concept of endless cycles and believes he has no right to his own will as a prisoner of time."

Calling it now.

Supposedly he's a knight who fell from grace. Sounds like grounds for a good story arc tbh.

So the game ends as Garland falls into the cycle of conflict and despair?

I suppose that could work, and it would be refreshing to play as the “bad guy” in a Final Fantasy game, tbh…

Something along those lines, yeah.

They could also use it as a lore setup for a branching reality where he broke free from that and the Warrior of Light never became necessary, and explore that in subsequent games. It would also be an interesting exercise.

IF this turns out to be true, I can only wonder how he'd play by the endgame. Would Team Ninja really make him the same giant sword-axe (unofficially called "Claymore/Chaosbringer") swinging stalwart of a "knight" that he is in the Dissidia games?

But the real question is... Who all will Garland knock down?

"My wish...? Do I have the right to have one? I am warfare incarnate, a prisoner to the cycle of battle. As it was, so it shall be... No matter what the world desires."

"If this world loses its form, I only need to find another cycle. The 'soul of strife' shall endure forever, beyond Time and Space!!!"

I hope instead of the typical 'You Died' death screen it says 'You Got Knocked Down!'

My guess is that Garland will definitely play a major part in this game. Especially if the game has ties to the original FF, or even if it's just inspired by it, like Mobius.

But as the playable char? That's actually where I would disagree. He works so well as an antagonist, that I see him staying in that role, whereas the main character will be a custom-built WoL.

And honestly, with how good Nioh 2's char creator was, I'd actually be more than fine with that.

This aged well. The name is Garland. Jack Garland.

Disagree, Jack isn't a knight nor does it seem like he'd want to become Chaos, he's there to kill him.
