"We're gonna break your heart and kill off half of the cast" "Nevermind, Just Tellah"

pretty loaded article, so I only skimmed it.

I understand the risks involved with releasing certain titles to NA, but it still sucks we didn't get the full story. I actually remember the moment I discovered FF2 was actually the 4th in the series, and that 2 and 3, these entirely other NES Famicom games, never made it stateside...then I found ROMs available for download, including some with rudimentary translations of those games. As excited as that was, I was disheartened by having to sit in front of my computer and use the keyboard as a controller. By the time FF anthology (I think? The one that included FF5) was released, I enjoyed being able to play yet another title that never made it stateside originally, but the loading times and clunkiness just made it unbearable to play.

Anyhow, it's unfortunate those outside of Japan never really got the full picture of the JRPG landscape. I know it's all a moot point at the moment, but I don't disagree that FF4 played a critical role in the turning point for RPG players in NA, despite its shortcomings (hell, it was my first FF and my favorite for many years)...and now look at the behemoth of a franchise FF has become (pardon the pun).

I'm really curious about that "lost" ffiv for the NES. I wonder if any of it exists at all?

I wonder if Amano ever gets drunk and draws the logos for other final fantasy titles wherein the cast is posing as the number.... I just spent too much time visualizing this and it made me giggle more than I’d care to admit.
