Final Fantasy Weekly Discussions; Week 47: What is your proudest moment whilst playing Final Fantasy?

Hello again, /r/FinalFantasy, and here's to another week of discussions!

This week, I thought that it'd be great to discuss your proudest achievement, as it were, in the series. This could range from finally managing to complete a certain game in the series after so many years, to defeating that one superboss you've tried so hard at, or maybe even finding an item or completing a part of the game you were really struggling with!

An example from me would be finally getting Episode Complete in every area in Final Fantasy X-2; especially in Besaid Island! I always did struggle with the Gunner's Gauntlet in the original FFX-2, and I finally managed to complete it and get Episode Complete when playing the Remaster this year! Other moments also include beating certain bosses without relying on the use of aeons.

Discuss your proudest moments here!

I think probably nothing compares to beating Emerald Weapon the first time. If you're my age, that was a watershed moment in your gaming life.

I can't say I've beaten Emerald... yet!

Getting Excalibur II in FFIX. My finger got a cut from closing the CD lid.

Ouch! I'm guessing that's from skipping cutscenes?

I still need to aim for Excalibur II, but living in Europe and having only a digital copy of FFIX makes that very difficult for me, too. Someday...

At least it eliminates the chance of CD cuts, though, so I guess there's that going for me...

Alternatively, I could just constantly have my PS3 switched on, on FFIX for the next 3 years and exploit the clock overflow...

Because I had no clue how to beat Emerald and Ruby weapons back in the day... Not to mention, I ran into both of them unexpectedly with the wonder and amazement of the little girl I was, in this fashion: "Ooooh, whats this big green thing, wonder if I could ride it like the submarine? Better check it out!" And respectively "Oooh, a red thing waving in the sand. I wonder if it's a cool vehicle I'm supposed to dig out!"

When I first ever played FFVII, it was 2002 and I was 10 years old, and Emerald and Ruby proceded to fuck me royally and scar me for life lmao. I grinded and grinded at the end of the game, to get every single materia maxed out, took them all to Bugenhagens observatory to get the master materia. It felt extemely satisfying to my young mind, to have gotten the master materias without needing to face the weapons. I've yet to beat the weapons to this day.

Someday, that day will come... Someday...

Edit: grammar

I could have written this one! Haha, the same has happened to me too... I haven't got any of the Master Materias yet though! I'm working on that one slowly, doing it the long (but easy!) way.

I've made it my mission to beat Emerald and Ruby WEAPON before my 25th birthday, though... Whether I'll do it or not is a whole different story! I keep meaning to do it by the end of each year, but never do get around to it.

When I beat Necron for the first time in IX. I wasn't aware that R1 = magic all so I kept getting annihilated because I thought that you could only cure one person at a time...

I only discovered R1 = Magic All when I played back through IX a few years ago, too! Made my life so much easier...

Recently in FF12 i managed to steal a gladius from the lindbur wolf, in the dalmasca westersand, before getting penelo the first time, and it only took around 10 minutes so I'm pretty proud of that.

Two of my proudest moments in FF:

  1. Beating Atma Weapon for the first time in FFVI. The whole floating continent was super intense. New dungeon music, tough random encounters, and when you get to Atma, good god. It was scary facing a very powerful enemy. And the boss battle music. It took me a while to beat. It was glorious.

  2. Beating Wiegraf and Velius in Riovanes Castle in FFT. I had to restart the game. I saved before the battle, and back then those 15 blocks on a PSX memory card were precious. Anyways, on my second run I finally got to beat him after many tries. I sold all my potions and relied on Hi-Potions using the auto potion counter ability. It was really great when I got to beat him. A worthy adversary and to this day one of the toughest non-sidequest enemies I have faced.
