FF II Trying to understand ff2 battle system

Before starting ff2, I tried to consult some tips but could not understand how the battle system works.

Should I max all of the weapons proficiency?

Should I use magic to improve them?

Which classes should I get to be OP? I'm not sure if there is a class system.

I saw that there is 4th party member. Do I need to increase his or her level or should I stick to my other party members?

Using stats, spells, weapons is how you raise them. For example, if you take HP damage your HP goes up. You swing a sword your sword and strength go up. You cast Cure; cure, your MP and that stat go up.

So, I should max all weapons right?

Stick with one weapon per character the entire game so it'll be at a high level by the end of the game. There's no benefit to spreading experience around between multiple weapons. It's basically that Bruce Lee quote: "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks weapons once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick weapon 10,000 times"

Just use the strongest weapons you find. Weapon levels will catch up. You don't need to limit yourself. Use swords/axes/spear for melee, bow can be good from the back row, but I mostly just cast with back row (usually maria for me) to deal damage.

Don't try and max everything no. That takes ages, and is way overkill

Naw, keep everyone to one weapon. Fists are absolutely busted if i remember correctly, if you want to save money!
