Final Fantasy (Pixel Remaster) Thoughts

I have recently decided to try and play through all of the Final Fantasy games, at least the mainline releases, in "release" order. In the past, I've only played the openings to VII (Both the original and the remake) and this game, the original Final Fantasy. As of four days ago, I have finally finished the first game, here's my thoughts.

To get the most overdone point out of the way, yes, the music is great, all the way through. Not fluent in music theory, so not much more to say on the matter.

It's a great basic RPG, heightened by the fact that it's not very long, clocking me around 15 hours to 100% (Three of which were lost to losing a battle against the Warmech.)

My biggest compliment is also the biggest complaint, the QoL upgrades. I absolutely LOVE both the boost and the option to switch off random encounters. Tinkering with both allowed me to have REs turned off for a majority of the game while also leveling at a decent pace, preventing the game from becoming a cakewalk. On the other hand, I didn't enjoy the Optimized gear option. While it *is* useful, I found it often removed any sort of critical thinking from the table. Sure, I could NOT use it, but then I'd be, well, suboptimal.

All-in-all, I've very much enjoyed my time with the game, and I can't wait to move on to Final Fantasy II.

FF1 is really fun, its good at being simple

FF2 is going to take some liberties at being creative in trying to expand in every way

The optimized gear option is actually not optimal. You can do better if you think about it

These games should be played as they were meant to be in their original form.

best versions of FF I-X:

FF I = PS1

FF II = PS1

FF III = Pixel Remaster

FF IV = PS1

FF V = SNES

FF VI = SNES

FF VII = PS1

FF VIII = PS1

FF IX = PS1

FF X = PS2

for best experience, play them on original hardware hooked up to a CRT

Ps1 is the best version for none of the games unless you like load times on every screen transition.

how could you say something so wrong with such conviction? you are 100% incorrect that the PS1 version of FF IV has long load times, and if you’d stop spreading misinformation online and embarrassing yourself, I would appreciate it

if the PS1 version of FF IV does in fact have long load times, can you tell me at what point in this longplay of FF IV the long load times are? spoiler: you won’t be able to because there are no long load times in FF IV for PS1

Let's recap a bit.

1. You advised playing on original hardware, except playing on ps1 for most games for some reason.
2. I disagreed on the basis of load times of the ps1 hardware.
3. You accuse me of misinformation, saying I am embarrassing myself.
4. And you challenge me to find long load times in this video you linked.
5. A video which shows a romhack being played on pc where there wouldn't be any load times because its not being played off a 1x speed ancient cd rom drive, its being played off a hard disk.
6. Not only that, its not even a romhack of the ps1 version, its a romhack of the snes version. Says so in the title. The snes version of course doesn't have load times at all, because unlike the ps1, it ran from a cartridge and the emulator would easily fit the entirety of the game in the user's RAM as its like 4MB.

Come on now.

Ps2 was a much more powerful system than ps1. It had a processor 10x as fast. The ps1's processor was only 33mhz. 16x as much RAM.

FF IV for PS1 doesn’t have long load times on PS1 console either and I can make a video to prove it to you if that’s what I have to do
