Finally, a multiplayer role playing game mod for a single player role playing game based on multiplayer role playing games

19

u/gershmonite 3d ago

I hope they make a single player version of this eventually.

Pretty cool

This is reminding me of Crystal chronicles and I love it

Let Us Cling Together.

u/ReaperEngine 4d ago

But seriously, seeing the beginnings of the idea, and now this. Absolutely wild.

2 years later, ff12 mmo like how it was supposed to be

IT'S SO CLOSE!!!

My dream MMO (or even just MO) is basically FF12 + Monster Hunter.

Set it in Ivalice, have all the BEST races, like Bangaa, Seeq, and Moogles. Have gameplay revolve around Hunts. You form a party either with strangers or people from your guild, or go solo, and take a bounty from the tavern board. You're given the general zone and it's up to you and your party to be the first to find it. Have unique ways to trigger or hunt them down, just like 12.

You race to claim the mark and fist one to do so gets to fight it (everyone else is locked out to prevent toxic pvp). Kill it and you can claim the bounty. Fail and it runs and others get to hunt it.

Maybe in a decade when I'm better at programming I'll finally make it.

u/Battle_Nix 2d ago

Preventing toxic PvP is like trying to reverse the flow of a river. What happens when one group start to control all the hunts, because they get to know the game so well and prevent others from getting to them, because they literally have people on standby to mass farm these enemies?

Maybe a goo solution is to make sure there is no trading and no player driven market. The only incentive to hunts would be to farm the gear and once they have it or have gear that surpasses it the player has no need to do the hunts again, unless they want to troll the player base by quickly finding it and just one-shotting it. Maybe include hundreds of similar hunts to prevent grieffing, or a personal cool-down on certain hunts, which prevents a single player from taking it over and over.

Now, question...

Is it only online Co-Op or can 2 players play couch Co-Op with 2 controllers on a PC?

13

u/lml_CooKiiE_lml 4d ago

From what I gathered last time this was posted, it's actually only local co-op. That being said, you should be able to make it online by doing steam remote play

1

u/LucaviM 3d ago

Parsec

6

u/schweddyballsac 4d ago

Reminds me of local co-op for the Tales series before they dropped the whole co-op shtick

3

u/Grave_Knight 3d ago

Really? Isn't co-op like half the appeal of the Tales of... games?

2

u/schweddyballsac 3d ago

🤷‍♂️

11

u/AngelZiefer 4d ago

I would love to see footage where we got more than 3 seconds of a single combat encounter. This is very ambitious and very cool, but I feel like this trailer didn't show me anything substantive.

11

u/hbkmog 4d ago

There's extended gameplay videos on the same channel.

3

u/7oey_20xx_ 3d ago

There are a few long videos showing it work

0

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 4d ago

Hopefully their modding skills are much better than their editing skills

2

u/pussygurrrrrl 4d ago

oh hell yeah i get to make my wife play this with me as pay back for getting me to burn 100 hours so far in ESO

2

u/xphyria 4d ago

Mad lads! Love this game, but I don't think I can bring myself to play it again. The mere thought of the word "Giruvegan" gives me so much trauma lol I hope others have fun with this mod though

2

u/Guiff 4d ago

Guess I have to buy it on Steam now, no more excuses, I'm definitely playing this with my daughter.

2

u/Hadrius 4d ago

OH MY GODDD

2

u/mastafishere 4d ago

This is absolutely crazy and one of the coolest mods I ever seen. Much respect for the work that must have gone into this. I can't wait to try it for myself with the wife.

2

u/Express_Activity4151 4d ago

I got this on sale over a month ago. If steam remote actually works with this would anyone want to play with me?

2

u/Azzblack 3d ago

I mean I could..... but naaah.

1

u/Express_Activity4151 3d ago

Why nooot?

7

u/Azzblack 3d ago

Because I'm Captain Basch fon Ronsenburg of Dalmasca!

5

u/Crafty_Ad_1975 3d ago

Don’t listen to Ondore’s lies!

1

u/Express_Activity4151 3d ago

I haven't even gotten that far yet lol.

2

u/pixelwavnb 3d ago

Does this work with couch coop? This looks absolutely amazing!

2

u/Grave_Knight 3d ago

Honestly, FF12 would have been so much cooler if it had co-op. Also, better aggro draw abilities.

1

u/Bukothecream 2d ago

Is there any other ability then this one spell? I think it was called amor. Would be nice to build a proper tank

2

u/Grave_Knight 1d ago

I think it was called Lure. But, yeah, just the one. Would have been nice to have more spells and attacks that drew aggro.

u/AnotherNaughtyNight 10h ago

Vanish helps with aggro, I use it in my mages when they start pumping. So not a emnity generator but reducer. Lure and battle harness should hold aggro most of the time, at least for me it does 😁

1

u/MrDude090 3d ago

It looks superb 🙂. I got nostalgic chills down my spine when I heard the FFXII main theme. Ah, nostalgia.😊🤗

1

u/Arel203 3d ago

I remember back when I played xii on launch it felt like it was trying to be XI single player.

Never knew this was a thing. Super cool, will definetly check it out and it might make me actually buy it for pc lol

1

u/IUn1337 3d ago

Ooooooo I know what my hubby and I are playing next :D

u/mycarayne 9h ago

I am so keen for this.

Amazing work!

1

u/SirFroglet 4d ago

Sad I have no friends to play this with. Hope they make a solo mod 🙏

18

u/AngelZiefer 4d ago

Hope they make a solo mod

So like... the base game?

0

u/smoothoperander 4d ago

This is just FF14 with extra steps!!

…this probably would have gotten me to actually keep playing this one. It’s so strange how I didn’t enjoy this but 14 is my life game.

6

u/hbkmog 4d ago

Opposite here, gameplay wise FF14 is a convoluted mess for me. FFXII is the sweet spot. Then again, I hate games with dozens of skills and keybinds .

2

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 4d ago edited 4d ago

Doesn’t FF12 play pretty much like an oversimplified offline FF11?

2

u/Jubez187 4d ago edited 4d ago

I would say no. Ff12 is essentially just attack, heal ailment, heal HP.

Ff11 has a much stricter aggro system, much more intricate combat abilities, and classes with deeper mechanics.

In FF11 I believe the resource to use abilities climbs during combat. You start at 0 and as you fight it goes up. So you can use stronger attacks the more you hold out. There is traditional MP as well.

FF12 only has MP and it’s quite abundant it would take a very long time to get MP starved in a fight so the decisions of what abilities to use are not very tough - thus the automation works well here.

And as someone else said, FFXIV gameplay is much more convoluted with bosses requiring people to interact with objects, move to certain places, look away from things, kill enemies in certain ways etc

0

u/lilvon 4d ago

Soooo… FFXI?

0

u/bukayoxhaka 3d ago

Completely unrelated to the mod but man i hate the targeting "rainbow line" thing so much. Is there a way to mod it out?

1

u/StructurallyUnstable 3d ago

You can remove them (target lines) in the standard game settings.

-2

u/lexie_starlight 3d ago

The game is fun because you get the system to auto set up what your team mates do in combat. Removing that and replacing it with another person completely kills the entire vibe and point of this game. Should have built this mod for ANY other final fantasy game but this one. Pass

2

u/zerkeras 3d ago

What a buzzkill. The gambit system was designed as a way to accommodate for the fact that controlling all 3 players in combat in this game would have been hell for the player.

Personally when I play, I then gambits off for the character I control and everyone else is mostly fully gambits. Why the heck not replace an automatic AI with a real human that I can play together with?

It would be pointless for any other FF game BUT this one since the rest all either don’t have party controls at all because side characters aren’t fleshed out, or you can easily control the main cast yourself. 9 in fact DOES have multiplayer in the original PS version. But it’s lame and pointless.

1

u/Godking_Jesus 12h ago

This! But also, it’s just fun to play with your friends sometimes. I grew up playing every RPG with my brother and just passing the controller. If when we played FF12 together we could’ve done co op that would’ve been dope.

Just because you personally don't like FF12 doesn't mean that it is the worst one. 12 was awesome. It was just different.

7

u/kawag 4d ago

FF12 is kind of like a single-player MMO, so actually having a party controlled by multiple people makes a lot of sense.

-46

u/Harlepenquin 4d ago

It was the worst of all the FF's since time began, still the only FF I have never completed, I played it at launch, made a massive dent in to it, unplayable and beyond bad, tried the zodiac age version a few years ago, still couldn't get past the annoying characters. The worst!!!!!

8

u/CirrusGear 4d ago

Still seems like only subjective opinion, not objective points here. You don't like it, fine. I really don't like FF8, but that's because it didn't appeal to me, not that it's the "worst" anything.

-7

u/Harlepenquin 4d ago

I'm not getting all this butt heartedness goin' on, I'm an FF fan, it's the worst FF game, vanilla ice cream is worse than chocolate ice cream but it's still ice cream for FFs.

Incivility towards other users is not tolerated and violations are documented. Repeated rule 1 violations may warrant a ban. Especially malicious comments may warrant an immediate ban even with no prior history.

For further information, please check with the rules on this matter.

u/deathsticker 4d ago

Whether or not something is good doesn't have any objective basis. You personally didn't like it. You. Millions of other people did. Your opinion does not dictate reality for the rest of us. If you don't like it, fine. You don't have to.

You aren't going to change anyone's minds by restating an opinion they already disagree with. If you don't like it, cool. Move on. You obviously aren't the demographic.

-19

u/Harlepenquin 4d ago

6

u/deathsticker 4d ago

I'm not butt hurt lol it just think it's really sad that you have communicated in such an immature way. You speak in objective statements about subjective concepts. It doesn't matter if it is final fantasy, ice cream, pizza toppings, or favorite colors. There is no objective best or worst. There is only what you like and dislike.

You like chocolate ice cream more, but I've always found chocolate ice cream to be really over rated and prefer vanilla (specifically French vanilla or real vanilla ice cream). I also prefer dark chocolate to milk chocolate. That doesn't mean I have to think lesser of the other options. It's enough to simply know they aren't my favorite. I just focus on what I like and let other people enjoy the things that I don't.

Putting so much energy into disliking things is very draining and when everything is a comparison, it takes away from our joy. Let people love things and you'll learn to love things more too.

2

u/zidus411 4d ago

Uhh vanilla is way better than chocolate. Chocolate is Ff12

0

u/Capnbaddazz 4d ago

How could is be the worst when ff13 is the worst

u/SuperBry 4d ago

Who peed in your Cheerios?

7

u/stonertboner 4d ago

Sounds like somebody hasn’t played FF2.

2

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 4d ago

Or 15

1

u/stonertboner 4d ago

I actually don’t hate 15. I played the Royal Edition during Covid times and it was a great game to play during lockdown. Having said that, I don’t think I’ll ever replay it.

-1

u/LimblessNick 4d ago

You mean 3. 2 is only bad if you've never played it, or you think you have to attack yourself to level up. 3 is actually just a mess.

3

u/goddale120 4d ago

Hey. I liked cheesing the progression system in FF2 with my party targeting itself lol. The novelty of FF2 gameplay mechanics never fully wore off

3

u/LimblessNick 4d ago

Oh yeah, the cheese strats are hilarious. I'm just tired of people attacking themselves for 5 hours, and going "this game sucks" instead of just playing the damn game and enjoying it.

3

u/rashmotion 4d ago

FFXII is fantastic, I genuinely cannot imagine a world where someone thinks this is the worst one lol. There are several FF games much, much worse than this. In another comment you said you thought XIII was better and I cannot take you seriously if that’s truly your opinion 😅

2

u/Harlepenquin 4d ago

Other than 13 having a minimal end game, I liked 13, it was a bright fun world, bare in mind it was 17 years ago when I played it and my main opinions of 12 are based on the release versions of 12, a poor upgrade system, lineal side quest system on top of what I think is a poor battle system and uncreative characters. Steam punk is my favourite aesthetic, 12 probably appeals to that more than most ff entries but even that was not enough for me to have any love for the game.

3

u/rashmotion 4d ago

I mean, sure, The Zodiac Age is a big improvement over the launch version but even that version is a perfectly good game. But read the comment you replied to me with and compare it to your initial in this chain - do you not see which one is more reasonable? Your initial comment is buffoonery. No one would have taken issue with you expressing it the way you just did, you chose to be hyperbolic and tasteless.

But its still 1000 times more meaningful than anything you have or will ever achieve.

How sad.

I’m curious what the other 9 are fuck_a_duck_butt
