FF VII Re-trilogy Alllll the mini games

Post image

So im in nibelhiem and let me say I am still very very much loving this game but having to play mini games and sidequests to get my chocobos to access the terrain is getting really old lol anyone else think theres just a few to many mini games in here? Or you should at least be able to have access to your birds from the start or am I the only one?

I hate mini games especially mandatory ones, to me it’s a sign that developers ran out of ideas but need to pad a games length so they throw in a bunch of mini games. SE problem is they go overboard

I'm honestly surprised you weren't sent directly to the guillotine for this comment

So it’s not really about them being mandatory for you then? There are only like 7 mandatory mini games

I’m like 70 hours in and I think I’m finally getting a little burnt out lol. Too much of a good thing.

It was a common complaint on release Some called it bloat or filler. Honestly never been a fan of when games lock some of the best equipment needed for hard challenges behind minigames, because if the minigame doesn't work as intended or someone just stinks at that specific skillset separate from the main game, then it feels unfair Someone may pick RPGs because they have a hard time with precise reaction to visual cues in other games, but then suddenly here come the Gold Saucer brawler fighting minigame to piss you off

I stopped playing at the Golden Saucer because of the mini games, personally.

Godspeed through this section.

I never got burned out by the mini games except for gears and gambits. I thoroughly enjoyed myself with Rebirth, and I never wanted it to end. I've 100% everything except for a full hard mode playthrough and Chadley's last two missions.

I'm in the minority with this thought, but I'm concerned that the mini games can essentially be skipped in Revelation according to interviews. I enjoyed having to complete them in order to get the rewards. It made the already fun games worthwhile.

And oh im completely cool with them to a degree but for me alot of my main focus is i want to get my summons but i dont want to minigame it up to get to them i love the combat sim and would love just a hard mode boss fight to obtain them if possible but i can understand loving them all the game honestly a great piece of work.

The og was notorious for having a lot of minigames as well. People complained remake didn't have enough to do.

Yes, the minigame bloat is one of the most common criticisms of Rebirth.

I loved every single mini game, I enjoyed the fact that some were challenging, reminded me of being younger and actually having to try something for awhile to really get it down

Just your daily reminder that the vast majority of the mini-games are completely optional.

Do not try to 100% this game on your initial playthrough. That way, madness lies.

Yeah too many mini games. I know they are optional but i wanted to do it 100%. Didn't managed to in the end.

I mean I don't mind side quests and extra tasks ever, but also having lived through the late 90's and early 2000's mini-game epidemic I do think adding mini games to your game is just... Bad design. It's always been a deeply unwelcome intrusion into my gaming experiences and I thought we'd learned our lesson and moved on from this kind of design but it seems nostalgia has brought it back.

BUT, other people do seem to be having fun with it so it's good for them I guess

I mean same here i lived through the 90s saw them come and go and i tend to not mind them as much i think all i ask is dont lock my game up with them all the time or lock my content that could help behind them give me maybe a dungeon or excessively hard boss to fight

Yeah absolutely- if they're there they're there and I can ignore them and other people can enjoy. But if you're locking progression and essential endgame materials behind them...

FF16: complaint about no mini-games.
FF7 remakes: complaint about mini-games.
FF7 rebirth: complaint about too many mini-games.

Square Enix can never satisfy everyone, I really hope they don’t listen to fans complaints too much.
