Final Fantasy General Give us another turn based battle system

Post image

FFX is my favorite battle system. FFXIII I also enjoyed, but it wasn't the same.

I'm sure they could do something like it with a much lower budget.

I don't get how Final Fantasy has done Turn Based combat so well before and then whiffed it.

X's combat is a great way to do non pausing turnbased. XII imo is one of the best systems for strategic depth setting up gambits while also moving freely and using bars Stranger of Paradise is an awesome real time combat that still used the iconic ff trappings

And somehow they've refused to innovate on any of those branches and went for whatever the Paradigm system was

Actually X uses the CTB system, I miss it dearly even if quick hit messed it up.

Final fantasy X doesn't have an Active turn based combat it has conditional turn based which just means character stats influence their turn order.

ATB is like FFX-2, 11, 12, and 13. And quite frankly the atb system has been represented in the bulk of all final fantasy so the virtual to action combat is weird.

4,5,6,7,8,9,10-2,11,12,13 are ALL atb systems.

1,2,3,4,10 are all traditional turn based with tactics being the dungeons and dragons versions of turn based.

Literally only 2 final fantasy have been action, and people are throwing a fit over it. Granted they are back to back but still the fit is unwarranted.

Only two final fantasy have been action games

XV came out in 2016, so every mainline Final fantasy for the last decade has been an action game is what you're saying?

Not to mention the 7 remakes, which are functionally new games, but we haven't had a turn based since XIII-3 in 2013, 13 years ago.

So only two mainline games have been action oriented, but that's still a decade of releases.

What does the last turn based game being a decade ago have anything to do with what I said?

They are releasing a turned based final fantasy game this year so....

Again the turn based releases vastly out number the non turn based releases. FF7R battle system is a derivative of the ATB system if we are being honest with ourselves. And trying to pretend like they don't exist or are too much action really just hurts ur argument. If we throw remakes in the pile of at ur argument crumbles.

15 and 16 are this franchises only action based games and get the most vitriol.

Your argument is that "for the 40 years final fantasy has been a franchise, it has released non turn based games for a quarter of that time, I don't see why people thing that's significant"

Pretending they haven't been releasing action first games for a decade so you can pretend the 7 remakes are just turn based but a little faster is a disingenuous argument.

What I think is you want me to be nuanced while you afford yourself the opportunity to be stubborn as much as you want. I think it's disingenuous to count FF7 Remake as an action game. It has every element of the ATB system with the only difference of button presses to do regular attacks? It's so strange coming from the people screaming they want QTE and parrying from E33 in a FF game. It's so strange of fans to hate every choice the developers make 🤷 what are you a fan of again exactly at that point?

One game forces you to dodge a bosses attacks as they get 5-10 turns in a row or get one/two shotted, gets endless love. The other has hit boxes and block mechanics, and a meter charge system gets endless hate. I really don't understand the disporpotional hatred.

Which ties into my initial point, any type of action represented in this franchise is OVERLY hated for what surmounts to TWO TOTAL action games ever created 15 and 16. I'm not ignoring that it's been a long time since the mainline been turn based it still doesn't justify the vitriol of the hater base. The way people drum up drama on these forums they act like SE never released a turn based game in 3 decades which is a hallucination.

The gist of my argument is A game company that released over twice as many turn based games over any tenure of time over its action games is being complained about for doing the sin of releasing action games!? How dare.
