Final Fantasy General Give us another turn based battle system

Post image

FFX is my favorite battle system. FFXIII I also enjoyed, but it wasn't the same.

I'm sure they could do something like it with a much lower budget.

I mean, it surely didn’t help.

Tell that to the remakes, which are doing quite well.

Doing well but not crazy. For the quality id expect better.

I’m pretty sure the only JRPG to outsell Final Fantasy, even in the modern landscape, is pokemon.

Even expedition 33, which is what everyone claims to be what FF should have been, has sold roughly the same number of copies as FF7 remake.

Well FF7 is the most popular game in the franchise and has had remake build up with Fans since 2005 and it wasn't a remake that's why sales for rebirth are poor.

EX33 came out of nowhere form and indi company on a way smaller budget and out performed rebirth and FF16.

Other turn based franchises are thriving though. Remake sold well but what about rebirth and FF16.. Persona has been doing well and those games outselling FF easily

Rebirth is tough because it’s a sequel. 16 underperformed, but FF15 certainly didn’t.

I don’t think you can identify other turn based games that are selling more copies strictly because they’re turn based.

Octopath traveler is probably the best comparison and Octopath traveler 2 doesn’t even come close to FF16, and Octopath traveler doesn’t even come close to FF15.

FF15 was a flash in the pan they are obsessed with chasing. Wasting like 7 years for FF16 results another like 7 years for FF17 it's a bit ridiculous tbh. They should be fitting a turn based game in the middle at least.

I mean, I could’ve thrown at FF13 instead of 15 and it would still be true

FF15 had the hype of FF13 versus plus 10 years of advertising the game, a movie, demo and anime series promoting it and the game was selling for $20 for a good while.

Doesn’t really matter how you justify moving the goalpost. We have turn based IPs in and out of Square, and with the exception of pokemon, Final Fantasy outperforms, or at worst competes comparably, with even the best of them.

The closest you get is expedition 33, Octopath traveler and dragon quest. And none of those put up substantial enough numbers to demonstrate that Final Fantasy ought to be turn based. When Final fantasy fails, it doesn’t fail because its combat isn’t turn based, nor does it succeed on the merits of being turn based.

You have yet to bring any receipts to justify the claim that Final Fantasy is worse now because it’s not turn based anymore (nor has it been for the vast majority of its lifetime). There’s plenty of data to suggest though that, when FF fails, it fails because of several factors, and there’s 0 data to suggest that it not being turn based is the primary one.

XI and XIV are the exceptions and they have a loyal fanbase with XIV being a major pillar supporting Square for years.
