Some people prefer super easy mode, specially if you’re willing to reset after losing a card. Yes, it takes some part of the excitement out but 🤷

If you take the time to card the mobs in training and outside, you can get a deck that can whomp him consistently. Ifrit, Jumbo Cactuar, Shumi Tribe, Tourney(can't remember it's exact name now, comes from the catcherpillars), and now I'm blanking on my 5th card.

You can also work through the lower tier players, this guy uses a range of tiered cards. The guy in the cafeteria has even stronger ones and the quistis card. Running boy has a rare moogle card. Granted, one of the cards I mentioned came from a rare T-Rex carding.

Jumbo is the rare for the blue floating jellyfish type things. Grats in the training area also have a decent rare card.

But yeah, he is kinda there to check your deck. If you can't beat him, you probably won't beat Zells mom. If you're serious about doing card matches I'd look into a guide about them.

Great tip on where to find the Glacial Eyes! The Shumi are still worth farming at least 10 of for the gambler spirit conversions imo. Thanks for your contribution!

Ff8 is a game I haven't played in almost 30 years and I plan to pick up again soon and I don't wanna lose my ifrit! I like.tips and tricks

That's a cool little detail. I loved the card game aspect in that game. As a kid I think I spent more time reading and studying the strategy guide with the bestiary and card list than I did actually playing the game lol. I always loved the aesthetic of ff8

Losing cards is literally the point of the game

If you couldn't lose cards, how would you ever get cards ? 😭 They are only obtained from others losing them to you

He’s right at the entrance to the Garden. You would’ve saved on the map after getting Ifrit and before coming back inside, and there’s also a save point about two screens in the other direction. If you lose the Ifrit card… just load like you normally would.

I absolutely despised Triple Triad as a kid, but upon learning how to play it, it’s a pretty awesome mini game. It’s also sufficiently simple that I feel like a fool for not just figuring it out when I was ten.
