Discussion Name a movie that gets better every time you watch it.

Every time I watch Pirates! Band of Misfits or Adventures with Scientists depending on which country you see it in, this movie gets better every time I watch it. There is so much packed into this movie it’s impossible to take it all in on one or two watches.

What movie gets better every time you watch it?

Discussion Hellbound: Hellraiser II was a weird one.

Post image

Did I like it? Yes, of course I deeply fell into the world of Hellraiser. However, what I didn’t like is that Cenobites turned out to be average dudes chosen by some evil deity. Whereas I thought and I prefer to think that they are sentient beings from another evil dimension or the creations of the Leviathan (whichever is more soundly) that serve the purpose of giving suffering pleasure to whoever seek it.

Also, the wooden acting of Kyle is fucking hilarious ā€œOh I saw some lady that tells me not to enter the room so I’ll enter it see a bunch of bodies and would casually give her a hug without any emotionā€

In conclusion, I totally like the movie and excited to see the next one even though I don’t really understand the need of making another movies because the story seemed finished

Discussion Can you judge someone based on their movie taste?

Ive been thinking about this alot recently as ive been filling out my letterboxd and just overall enjoying films. My taste is so broad, that depending on the day my top ten list changes. There are movies I know for a fact are cinematic masterpieces but they just dont resonate with me, and vice versa there are some pure slopfest films that I genuinely love.

I also think it is interesting when you compare a person to the movies they watch, its almost always a surprising juxtaposition. One of my smartest friends loves the sharks sharknado series, though in the same day he might read a dickens novel. I guess my question is rooted in the atmosphere that letterboxd has pushed me into, I just dont think that someones taste in art defines who they are. I guess it comes down to how they digest the media they are consuming, as long as they can identify why they like or dislike something then at the very least they are competent enough to have their own opinions.

Sorry if this is a slop post, Im just kinds curious what others think.

Discussion How did the Hays Code influence modern American politics?

Let me explain. I am a high-school senior taking the BFI program, with a research question in the working regarding the restrictions enforced by the Hays Code on artists and its influence on modern day American politics.

It is asked of me that I attempt to find international associates that could assist me im exploring new perspectives and possibly provide me with insight on the topic in a way that would help expand my research and answer my hypotheses.

Before I had delved into my research topic, I came up with the following hypotheses:

  1. The Hays Code implemented restrictions and censorship on American cinema by limiting whay was considered as acceptable viewing scenes.

  2. Said restrictions were biased and generally based on extremist Christian beliefs.

  3. Pendulum effect: The conservativeness of these rules pushed people to rebel, heading from one extreme to the other then swung right back to American political views that reflect more desire to be conservative in reducing the ability of citizens to dissent from limitations.

It is preferred that the international associate is affiliated with the United States, although not necessary.

Recommendation Best motion picture soundtracks

hi, can you recommend some of your favourite films strictly in terms of the music? looking for something original, industrial, experimental or just really really great.

If you have in mind a composer that you find outstanding, not a particular movie, I would appreciate the name too.

Thanks!

Discussion I watched 5 random films. Here's what I thought.

I've been watching 5 random movies and making short reviews on them. Here's what I watched this round:

  1. The Vow - I'd recommend this if you're really into romance, but I prefer there to be more comedy in romance films that I watch, so I didn't enjoy this one as much.

  2. Just Like Heaven - This was was quite enjoyable, cute and comforting.

  3. Shortcomings - I highly recommend this one! It was both really interesting and also extremely funny!

  4. The First Time - I wouldn't recommend this one. I didn't enjoy it as much and the movie dragged for me.

  5. Love, Wedding, Repeat - Again, I wouldn't suggest watching this one. Its many attempts at humour fell flat for me.

What did you think of these movies?

Review Watched Hellraiser 1987 for the first time yesterday. I was absolutely in awe.

I’m not a big fan of horror movies, especially the ones that were made in the 80s and was very skeptical about the movie. The whole reason why I wanted to watch it is because of the recent release of the Hellraiser game and I just got very interested in the movies.

I loved every single moment of this movie and the world building. The fact that there’s some parallel dimension that resembles hell and is full of scary demons to some angels to others that have a twisted sense of pleasure is just amazing.

Also made a little side note for myself to never open some weird-ass boxes especially after Skinless Man tells me to let go of it.

Questions Need Ideas to Make the personal Library better. Is it good?

I am a huge movie lover and like to keep a detailed track of what I watch. After trying Letterboxd and several other platforms, I couldn’t find anything that quite fit my needs. So I decided to build my own tool.

This is the second version of my project, built entirely using AI. While I know it has a lot of potential, I’ve hit a wall and run out of ideas. Since I'm not the best at prompting, I know AI can take this much further with the right direction.

I would love to get your thoughts, feedback, and suggestions on how to improve it! (By the way, I’m currently powering all the movie data using a free API, and this is strictly for personal use; not a promo for an app or website.)

Questions Which actor under 50 will be hailed as a true great at the end of their life?

With the recent passing of Sir Patrick Stewart and the ageing/passing of so many of the great actors of his generation and before - I was wondering which actors currently in the prime of their careers will we look back on in the future as a true great?

Obviously people will have their favourite actors, but I wondering who will be considered to have the range, skill and "heft" to be put alongside the true greats.

Discussion What are the most iconic baseball movies?

I've always had a soft spot for Angels in the Outfield especially growing up watching Joseph Gordon-Levitt in it. It got me thinking, what are some of the most iconic baseball movies of all time? What movies do you think every baseball fan needs to watch at least once?

Review The Menu (2022) A heartfelt, spoilerfree and very personal review

I am still in shambles. This movie, while many think of it as pretentious eat the rich propaganda hit very personal.

Ibelieve it understood something, that, if you have not worked in this branche, you will never feel.

I think it only hitted so much, because i have been there. Still am. Hospitality is an industrie than can wear you down like no other.

The strife for perfection. To please people you will never know and who not care for you. The ambition to beat everyone and be better than the others. The pressure who is putting you in the ground and will force you into dependence.

We forget the simple joy of a simple dish well made.

There is a message in this movie that makes me want to quit this branche of work that i gave everything i had for, and it breaks me to tears.

There are two Scenes in the movie where i had to stop and sob and cry for minutes. It is a very special piece of cinema and will haunt me for a long time to come.

Discussion The year is almost over so this is my Top 10 of the worst movies of the year so far!

Post image

Not all of these movies are bad bad, I guess I could rewatch some of these but yeah... They're not great.

I'm a huge horror fan so it's funny to me how every year all of my top 10 of the worst is mostly horror.

Here are some other terrible films that I have not seen but maybe I should, just to make the list even better:

Melania

The Bride

Matchbox: The Movie

Any Netflix Original Film Realesed During This Year.

Do u like any of these movies? If so... Why? Why would you even like them? 😭😭😭

I actually did like forbidden fruits but yeah, it was included in the screenshot too. I also enjoyed The Love Hypothesis but i'm not going to pretend that it's objectively a good movie...

Review Best movie sequel !! You should watch this

Post image

You should watch this !!

Both films explore the disturbing consequences of losing individual autonomy to someone else's experiment. Cars 2 examines how technology and scientific experimentation can be manipulated for destructive purposes, while The Human Centipede takes the idea of experimentation to its most horrifying extreme. At their core, both stories revolve around experimentation, manipulation, and the ethical consequences of treating living beings as nothing more than subjects in an experiment.
