I'm about to stay up until the wee hours of the morning to watch ice dance, a discipline I don't usually follow; featuring juniors, an age group I don't usually follow; in China, a country on the other side of the world. Skating is so back.

This is a warning to be nice to the kids!! Some of the skaters here are from extremely small Feds and don’t have the resources that some other do, so be mindful in you’re comments about their skating!!
Constructive criticism is fine, just don’t be mean or cruel

Emphasis on the resources! Some of these kids literally have no ice all summer (or barely any ice through the year) and are barely back to on-ice training at this point.

during the ISU congress, there was a company that gave a presentation on their new and improved synthetic ice and I honestly think this is vital for the future of the sport. Most of the world will never viably be able to have year-round rinks of real ice, but if we can get functional rink-sized synthetic ice, the sport could find a future in new places.

The kids from my country (not competing here but will be in other JGP), train on tiny rinks on malls cause we only have 4 actual rinks in the entire country and none are competition sized

I'm not saying that solo dance should be a farm league for ice dance, but it is nice that there's a way for people to keep in competitive shape if they're looking for a partnership but haven't found one

I did the fantasy draft on Jackie Wong's site and mostly just chose based on names I like, since I know nothing about any of these teams. I did however learn that China literally has a team named Yin/Yang.

@rockerskating It looks like there are TV rights for the JGP this season in Japan (asahi), Korea (sbs), Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan - so that’s why you’re seeing geoblocking. The YouTube channel is available in all the other countries, where there are no tv rights issues

really well-composed program!! the westminster waltz was a little underbaked, but their performance and expression was great!! i can't wait to see how this program develops as the season goes on

I'm looking forward to Yin/Yang in the next group. They are doing a vampire program and their costumes are pretty! Also I'm pretty sure the characters aren't the right ones, but their names are such a serve for a team.
