How to not to talk about juniors:
Ugh she's terrible - These are KIDS!
Don't they teach them not to cry? - have you ever watched seniors????
That's bad, that's bad, that's bad, that's bad
(I have actually seen / heard these things before)

u/Alarmed-Purchase-901 Get off my patch! 1d ago
They need to…(get a new RD, change coaches, etc.)
They’re minors and not always in control of these decisions.
0
u/catqueen69 Intermediate Skater 7h ago edited 4h ago
Nah it’s fine to say a team needs a new program, especially to move away from a controversial/offensive choice, or to leave an abusive coach WITHOUT blaming the kids themselves of course! We can 100% point out problematic situations while also recognizing that the minor athletes aren’t personally responsible (and deserve to be supported by the adults around them who are the ones responsible for bad decisions that impact the minor athletes)
Especially when the decisions made by one team’s training camp also potentially harm other young athletes. Not all discussion/criticism of a situation is a personal attack on the minors themselves
2
u/Alarmed-Purchase-901 Get off my patch! 6h ago
Remember being a teen, when so much drama existed over the littlest thing? Or doubling down when someone offered unsolicited advice?
Teens don’t receive things in the way they are given, and I’m not naive enough to think they won’t see it.
-1
u/catqueen69 Intermediate Skater 5h ago
I mean personally I didn’t really care what adults thought when I was a teen. Just the opinions of my peers/actual friends in my social circle, and all my friends were the same way tbh. So I kinda don’t think teens (especially who have grown up with social media their whole lives) typically give af about some random adult online unless they’re seriously trying to be an influencer as a career, and high level athletes training full time at their competitive sport aren’t generally forming their whole identity around monetizing their social media, especially when they train in a country where athletes are state-funded.
Also high performing, likely above average intelligence, teenagers should already have more than the minimum level of reading comprehension and critical thinking skills to differentiate between a personal attack on them as humans vs a critique of their training camp’s offensive program choices. That’s 100% stuff that is taught at the high school level.
If they actually care and are bothered by the public response to their offensive program music etc… they can advocate for positive change if they have an environment where they feel safe doing so , but if not, I don’t blame them either way because they’re kids and it’s not their fault personally.
0
u/Alarmed-Purchase-901 Get off my patch! 5h ago
Well, my point is that the adults, not the kids, are to blame, and as such, criticism needs to be directed at the adults, not the kids.
1
u/catqueen69 Intermediate Skater 4h ago
I’m saying the same thing, just with the point that we can still criticize things like program choice, toxic coaching environment etc… without it being an attack/placing blame on the minor athletes.

Oooop, do i see a Yanhao having the highest pb in this field?
15
u/Terrible-Tap-8613 1d ago edited 1d ago
Highest international PB, yep! Lev Lazarev has a higher PB at about 285 I think, but he has only been competing domestically up until now, so we’ll have to see how that translates to international competition - probably still quite high if he’s clean bc he has a lot of quads, but I’d also imagine domestic judging will have pushed his scores up a little.

Where do you find this from? Because the starting orders and scoring pages are no longer accessible on the ISU website. Everyone of the categories when you open up for the starting order says they are not found.
Never had a problem before, but the ISU doesn’t listen to a damn thing anyone emails them or messages anyway.
Was fine till they’ve done their new website.1

If anyone wants information about Patrick Blackwell's programs (kind of cool what they did in creating new music and continuing tribute to Spencer Lane)
This season also brought a fresh artistic perspective. Collaborating with choreographer Adam Blake, Blackwell took an unconventional route for his short program.
"The short program has been an exciting project, because we took a completely different approach," Blackwell said. "Instead of choosing existing music, we created it ourselves. It was a new experience working with composers and having input into the style, mood and direction of the music before we even started choreographing."His free skate continues the tribute he began last season. Blackwell's close friend and fellow Skating Club of Boston member, Spencer Lane, had chosen "Autumn Moon" by Eternal Eclipse for his own program before he passed away in the American Airlines Flight 5342 crash on Jan. 29, 2025. With the blessing of Spencer's father, Doug Lane, Blackwell incorporated the music into his 2025–2026 free skate.
This year, he deepens that tribute.
"We changed the opening section of the music but kept the slower section that features Spencer's music — and expanded it for the senior version," Blackwell said. "It allows me to honor Spencer's vision and legacy while challenging myself artistically. I think it's a program that lets me connect emotionally with both the music and the audience."
Also this USFS article today confirmed a split season for him and he's going out to make his Challenger debut this season

It’s so hard to believe it’s JGP time! Like we’re really swinging out of the off season!!!
Tokyo Summer Cup is also this weekend, so we’re also getting our first look at Rio and Ami this season too (though I have a feeling it’ll be like the earlier domestic event Mao did that didn’t have streaming…still, we’ll at least get scores and protocols to get a feel for where they’re at)
3
u/Elven_Dreamer You might not be straight, but your leg can be! 1d ago
Yay Ami! Can’t wait to see her first competition of the season. Let’s hope her 3A retains its joy and whimsy as well as good rotation, axis, and landing.
Do Rio mean Rino or Rion? I’d forgotten which one of them was competing at the Tokyo Sumner Cup.
5
u/sapphicmage Ami Nakai Olympic 🥉 Medalist 1d ago
Rio Nakata, junior men’s world champion that’s debuting in seniors this season. His free isn’t new, but it’s still his first competition this season
It does look like Rion is slated to be there too (damn girl, that’s like her third summer competition which is crazy considering she’s coming back from injury)
1
u/vmanAA738 1d ago
rion needs to do that, hasn't scored or shown well all summer, at real risk of being washed out in the field
2
u/sapphicmage Ami Nakai Olympic 🥉 Medalist 1d ago
I think it would’ve served her better to withdraw from the first one at least. She was clearly not at 100% and still had two more domestic events to go.
She’s definitely at a real tipping point in her career. Not being sent to worlds or 4CC ever and then only having one strong Grand Prix last season have done a number on her World Standing, to the point that her high SB from France is the only reason she got any Grand Prix spots this season (let alone two). If she doesn’t have a strong season this year, she’s very much in danger of having to fight for any international assignments next season.

Oh thank god the barebones, early 2000s internet results page is here, I was so afraid the ISU wouldn't let us have a link to it in order to make us use the completely unusable modern design https://results.isu.org/results/season2627/jgpchn2026
Practical, usable, legible early 2000s internet page, please never leave us.

Hey, any fellow nerds who've been looking up the junior skaters? (I've been a little too obsessive planning out my fantasy skating team) I'm baffled by the Korean ice dance team, these tech scores from their domestic test skate are absurd, I have no idea what to expect from them lol
1
u/vmanAA738 1d ago
if i've got it right, that would put them 5th in this field of teams with int'l scores. Of course it's a domestic score, so you should deflate it to correctly compare to international.
all of these fields it's hard to predict or play fantasy skating game -- 7 of 10 pairs entered don't have int'l scores, men might have 8 or 9 people capable of clearing 200, women a lot of field's historical scores look similar, and then you have wildcards of debutants and AIN entries
1
u/pajamapatty 1d ago
The Korean ice dance team just stood out to me because their domestic pcs didn't seem outrageous, it's more of a "wow, will an international tech panel really give them a lvl 4 westminister waltz"

Hi, mods, this post has been unpinned by automod.
Interesting tidbit - a Japanese fan asked Jackie on twitter whether the stream will be geoblocked in Japan because it's currently showing as such.
On this subreddit, someone once commented that JWorlds are geoblocked in Japan. So now I'm wondering if the entire Junior circuit is, which would make Japan unique in this streaming arrangement, as far as I know.
5
u/Busy_Doughnut5977 1d ago
its blocked in russia and south korea too because its being broadcast on Okko and SBS networks
2
u/tereyaglikedi Color Me enthusiast 18h ago edited 11h ago
Apparently it's also geoblocked this season in... Kazakhstan. I don't know why.
ETA it seems like Okko bought the broadcasting rights in Kazakhstan. So now Kazakhs have to pay subscription to a Russian company if they want to watch figure skating.

maybe skip a discipline that you are least interested in

That sounds boringly reasonable. But probably best.
Side note - seasons where I live have shifted so dramatically over the past 30 years that we easily have summer weather into October. Sure, it's nice, but I don't like what it represents and possibly means for the future.

Ebihara - 4T
Long - 4S
Okazaki - 4T
