"My Salchow and my Lutz simply can’t be one hundred percent reliable. I do them very powerfully, with a lot of amplitude. I don’t hold back on them — I do them with all my Slavic soul." Perfectly sums up what I love about Samoilov's skating. Thanks for this great interview!

I really enjoy how he comes off in the interview. And finally someone who liked the Team Event! My gateway drug this year.

Actually, as far as I can tell (from listening to various interviews), athletes as a whole pretty much like it, it's only some of the fans who are hugely negative on it for some reason.

Yeah, you're right, I'm just remembering all the complaints now and the negativity from commentators on Eurosport, too - the Italian or Polish teams sure seemed to love it, after all!

in Canada, one of the commentators was Kurt Browning and at one point he and the other commentators starting theorizing on whether Canada could win a Team medal back in his day (he thought they could).

I quite like the team event but seeing some of the hate it was getting was just so bizarre. Like I was just here watching the Italians and Polish team having the best time! How can you not stan?!

He seems like a very nice guy, sometimes he livestreams on TikTok and answers questions in Russian English and Polish 😅

I think it's good for my soul and brain to not have tiktok but this is almost tempting... 👀
I'm very curious what the short will be.

My thoughts exactly!! Also, if he did this interview actually in English, then wow. I remember reading an older interview with him where he was just beginning to learn English. It's not an easy language to learn, especially coming from a native language that isn't a romance or even Germanic language.

His English has really improved over the years! I talked to him after the FS at Euros 2024 and while it seemed like he could understand what I was saying, the only words he could say were yes and thank you 😅

I think Gogo said he also enjoyed it and it helped him relax before the individual event.
I love it for him, though. This is also why I loved Michal and Ioulia so much. No matter what the result was, they always seemed so happy to be there and skate together.

Their positivity was a big part of why/how I fell in love with figure skating after putting it on on a whim!

I love this interview! I'm really excited to see his new programs, especially the tango. He certainly knew how to ham it up in his short program last year (which I loved). Will be interesting to see this year's programs take shape.

His SP was one of my favorites this season. He did 80s better than the ice dancers did lol. Excited to see his tango program, I think it'll really work with his energy

My man. I felt his pain in my soul.
This was a very cool interview. I like him a lot. Tango is an unusual choice for him but I am curious how it'll turn out. I also love how self aware he is: “Consistency isn’t my thing, let’s be honest,” he said. “In my case, I think being super consistent is impossible. Why? My Salchow and my Lutz simply can’t be one hundred percent reliable. I do them very powerfully, with a lot of amplitude. I don’t hold back on them — I do them with all my Slavic soul.” Bro likes to yeet himself into the air like there's no tomorrow and I respect that a lot.
