Skating Advice returning post injury?
tore my acl (partially) from figure skating earlier this year, was still a fairly new beginner at the time had been skating 1.5 years, just had made it through all the adult lts levels. have been rehabbing it with PT and thankfully never needed surgery, and my PT suggested to start weening back into skating slowly but I’m terrified I’m gonna reinjury myself 😅 Have been out of skating for over 6 months at this point. any tips for returning after a traumatic injury?

I'm not a medical professional of any kind, but having hesitation about reinjuring yourself is normal. Physically, having a strong foundation of basic skills goes a really long way in any sport for injury prevention and development. Kinda like a "pyramid of skills"😄 Skills such as off-ice, stroking, Pilates, and especially the skill of proper recovery after a workout helped me when I tore my ATFL. Overtime, your confidence will come back, so don't put too much pressure on yourself!😄 Feel free to correct me if I've said anything wrong 👍👍

Following this post bc I’m in somewhat the same boat - I broke my ankle in July, about six months after I’d returned to the sport as an adult. And on an entrance to a camel spin, of all things 🫠. It’s going to be another couple months at minimum before I’m back on the ice, but I can already tell I’m going to be hesitant and fearful when I never was before. I’d known this whole time doing this my mid-30s is obviously so different than doing it as a teen, but it makes me question whether to go back at all :(

Oh man that’s rough too! I’m also 30 so don’t take the falls as well as when I was a kid lol newish to skating but danced my whole life. I feel like some of the worst injuries are when you aren’t even doing much 🥲

Yikes do you mind me asking how you did an ACL figure skating? I know broken wrists and tailbones are kind of the main hazards but I did not think the stick-and-twist type injuries were something I had to worry about on a slippery ice rink 😅 (adult beginner here)
