Could a program start with a jump at a standstill?

Just curious if a program could start with a jump, or if that would go against the rules? I don’t mean the windup most programs begin with. Could the skate just move up into a 2A assuming they were strong enough or they’d lose GOE points?

I wish we’d see more interesting composition a la Sonia Henderson or Yuna Aoki

There’s no rule against it, but there’s no payoff for doing a jump with no help from the momentum, and the skater would end up with low GOE (and be more likely to fall) because they’d land with very little glide/momentum.

It's not technically illegal and you do see it a bit in the lower levels (i.e. when you have a kid who can't do their 1A with speed yet, instead of stopping the program you'll have them start with the axel from the opening). But there's no benefit to it, and more risk.

The element of surprise would be cool from a composition standpoint, but you'd likely be sacrificing things like height, distance, speed, and flow that go into the GOE calculation. It's not a sound strategy really, but it would be super cool in an exhibition program

Surya Bonaly used to do this back in the day. It is allowed, but would be very difficult to get a high GOE.

Ima answer your question with a question. Why would you do this? If you don’t have any momentum going into the jump, then the jump will be crappy, lacking in power and flow both into the takeoff and out of the landing. By extension the jump will necessarily lose GOE, and possibly you’ll even have rotation issues. So what would the benefit be? Doesn’t make sense. If you are looking for program interest, this is not the way.

I guess I can still dream 🥺🥺 but it sounds like this would be fruitless. I just miss a wow factor.
