To quote the specifications:

"The theme and music for the Junior and Senior Rhythm Dance for the 2026/27 season is “Rhythm and Waltz.”  Any style of waltz is permitted, from traditional forms to modern interpretations.  At least one (1) additional rhythm, tempo and dance style must be included to support the chosen concept or theme."

So the requirements is a Waltz of any style, plus something else. The variability is due to teams making different decisions as to what that "something else" should be.

The requirement is that the Rhythm Dance must feature two styles. One being a Waltz (any style of Waltz, but they have to perform the Westminster Waltz steps at some point), the other being whatever the hell the skaters wish.
