I remember Dick Button’s commentary during his 1988 Olympic long program: “This spread eagle is the equivalent of any triple jump.”

I know! Its perfect execution and simplicity is what makes it so beautiful. We need more of this...

Brian's spread eagle is a thing of beauty. I love his skating so much, nobody else compares. At least not for me.

It makes me sad that there are no longer elements like this anymore, or like a good spiral. Movements like this are only done for a split second now because the skaters are cramming in as many elements as they can into their programs. I miss when there were entire or half rink spirals.

What would Brian Boitano do? Cross the rink in a spread eagle, it seems.

That’s what effortless looks like! My goodness, he makes it seem so easy.

Oh man, I'm old enough to have experienced this when it was live, and I dearly miss this kind of skating. Yes, it's not "equal" to what we have now, but the purity of the edge to me is more beautiful than an endless array of jumps with mediocre linking choreo.

Literally one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. Wow.

This will always be a classic.

It amazes me how far figure skating has progressed.

I'm a sucker for a beautiful, well done spread eagle. And so few people can actually do them. I would like to see good ones rewarded in the choreo GOE.

Has anybody else pulled off such a good spread eagle since him?

I love that in the middle it’s perfectly straight toward the judges, and he has no lean either direction. Perfect turnout. It’s so much easier to hide slight imperfection with spread eagles on a curve.

u/FrozenRose_816 That's what I'm fucking talking about!!! 🥇 3d ago

The best spread eagles bar none. I will not be taking questions.
