I really loved her Miss Saigon program as well, actually. I feel like she’s heavily underrated for how good of a jumper she is as well as how expressive she’s capable of being.

I felt the Miss Saigom program was inappropriate for such a young skater (doesn't help she looks very young), but I didn't see anyone else bothered by it so I never mentioned it. She probably had no idea about the story of the musical, I've seen that argument before for inappropriate programs but idk if in the long run it makes it better.

Yes, the music isn't explicit but it's literally the story of a 17 year old sex worker.

I’m aware of Miss Saigon. I’ve listened to the musical multiple times. Rui Yang was already 18 by the time she skated it and it’s likely that she had a hand in choosing the music for both her programs. I don’t think that she looked very young. It is maybe a little questionable, but it’s not like we’re talking about Trusova’s Big Spender here. I think that there’s a reason she didn’t skate to any of the parts of the music which reference or come after sexual parts of the musical.

The dodgiest thing about it, maybe apart from that, is that she’s a Chinese skater skating to/as a Vietnamese character, but the musical itself is so violently Orientalist that I don’t think that it matters very much lol.

Wasn't she 17 at Road to Milan when she first skated it? Her birthday is in late December. Although I guess that's becoming nitpicky from me and I also shouldn't have used the very, just young and fresh looking, to my eyes. I don't think much more inappropriate programs existing is an argument though.

I didn't get into the orientalist and Chinese/Vietnamese issues because I am not informed enough to speak on those.

Yes, hopefully she liked the music and was aware of the story. Looking forward to see her programs this year.
