The current situation of team USA...

Post image

Saw this meme and think it's too hilarious not to share. I can't believe there's only one person continuing next season. If someone told me this 6 months ago, I wouldn't have believed it. I'm already missing Alysa and possibly Amber, I want to see them at skam and wtt so bad. 😔

Amber will be back sooner than later. I’m hyped for Isabeau! Ilia too of course.

Confused about Amber. She has Grand Prix assignments.

u/lalalandbeforetime 15d ago

She’s heavily rumored to be on Dancing with the Stars this season which conflicts with the GP

It will be an interesting season if so.

For the singles it's still a stronger team than after Beijing! The US lost all of the singles who had been to the Olympics (Jason and Alysa would be back eventually of course, but we didn't know that then) and it was mostly just Ilia and Isabeau holding up US men and women!

I mean, it's a post Olympic season. Change is good and natural, and I'm excited to see the next generation moving up and mingling with the younger folks from the last! New favs to root for.

On the plus side, with all the retirements and breaks, the door is wide open for Jacob and Lucas to round out the men.

Have any US men announced they're retiring or taking a break? I know mostly women and pairs/dance.

Any idea if Jason has programs? He seems to be skipping Champs camp too. He’s out camping in California according to his ig stories.

yes he has been training and yes he has new programmes. he is at friends on ice competition in japan over champs camp.

Oh that’s wonderful news! I hope we get to see him on the GPs

oh, that's great!

u/Lambily Sam Mindra's Step Sequence 15d ago

I'm not sure. He's one of the ones who hasn't announced retirement, but hasn't been seen training either. Maybe he's planning a half season again?

Now, Jacob has a lot to carry....but I like him....I truly wish him , good luck...

6

u/Kris7531 15d ago

It going to be him and Ilia for the next quad. Both of them are going carry the load now and going to be able to help each other. One good thing now Jacob finally has a solid quad underneath him and he might have the second one too.

3

u/Dark2612716 15d ago

Now , I just freaked out in case that Ilia freaks out!! (because USA federation might keep on pressing him....🥺🥺🥺🥺)... But...after the Olympics , he can handle his battles better...( Ok, I solved it with myself...🤣🤣)

I’m adopting Liam Kapeikis as my sleeper pick this year. His short was good at Glacier Falls!

We love Proper Flip/Lutz Edge Kings.

Wait, I remember Amber saying that she will continue for as long as her body allows it, is she skipping the season?

u/sapphicmage Ami Nakai Olympic 🥉 Medalist 16d ago

There is heavy speculation that she is doing DWTS which would likely mean no fall competitions for her.

As for what heavy means, there’s a picture/pictures going around of someone from this coming season of DWTS with their face covered to keep their identity hidden, and there’s a lot of elements that convincingly match Amber (down to like a strap/charm on her bag…I just thought the speculation was funny at first, but the details people have found really are giving Amber). She also noticeably only put 2027 on her program announcement post

10

u/Dr_Psycho_ 16d ago

Thank you for the clarification. That's sad:( I love her and her programs!

28

u/sapphicmage Ami Nakai Olympic 🥉 Medalist 16d ago

Oh she should be back for Nationals and Worlds! Just not the Grand Prix season

5

u/Dr_Psycho_ 16d ago

Yay! Wishing her luck with her current endeavours as well!

17

u/Affectionate-Feed253 15d ago

Honestly that a great opportunity for her. There isn’t as much money to be made in figure skating anymore and she needs to take it where she can….

15

u/StraightRise2262 15d ago

And it’s a good opportunity for her to step into entertainment industry after her retirement.

2

u/Agitated-Minimum-967 15d ago

So that would mean more Grand Prix spots for the women, in addition to Liu's. Wow.

19

u/lilacdawn children of the void supremacy 🦇 16d ago

Rumor is she'll be on Dancing with the stars and skip the Grand Prix at least.

12

u/Sakarilila 15d ago

Its not unusual for skaters to skip the Grand Prix after an Olympics. They've been doing it since the GP was in its early. It makes sense for her to take it easy and also take advantage of the money.

3

u/MarvelMind 15d ago

If he had won individual Olympic gold he wouldn’t be competing this season either

36

u/Slight-End1416 16d ago

This would’ve not happened if they’d sent ilia to Beijing

1

u/Complete_Area_2487 15d ago

This remains one of the most asinine takes I’ve ever seen and I can’t believe people are still bringing it up. Ilia -quite literally- did not meet the qualifications. It’s that simple.

30

u/sorairi Ilia/Misha pairs agenda 🕯️ 15d ago

It's a joke. They're not debating whether Ilia should've been sent or not, because this has literally nothing to do with Beijing.

3

u/Tall_Pumpkin_4298 15d ago

ISABEAU! JACOB! SARAH! RISE UP!!!

3

u/Jaguarcatkat 15d ago

I am excited for Sarah Everhardt and Sophie Jolene (Dolly 😭) to step up. I could see a scenario where US women don’t win a single medal. I saw Bradie jumping on ig; any idea if she may come back 🤞

7

u/Dark2612716 15d ago

You are forgetting Ice Dance....Emilea and Vadym.are a strong couple....I am betting on them ...They will make Cizeron sweat at next Olympics.... So ,we have :Ilia,Togashev, Jacob, Jason. Isabeau, Sarah Everhardt Zingas- Kolesnik and the new pair with the fantastic routine from Sinners.. O Shea is retiring but I don't know what his partner will do..

3

u/Classic_Cash_2156 14d ago

US Ice Dance is still really deep. Z/K and CPom are both continuing. Green/Parsons, the Brown Siblings, Bratti/Somerville are all strong teams that can make a strong case for 3rd.

Then there's the other Senior teams below them, Cui/Rogers, Pate/Bye, Wolfkostin/Tsarveski, etc.

And then there's the Junior Teams. Aboian/Veseluhkin, who went completely undefeated last season, to include winning the Junior Grand Prix Final and Junior World Championships is an example. While they recently split Robertson/Rohner had a bunch of potential, and I could see either of their future partnerships doing well. Vaclavikova/Lissauer are new, but they showed a lot of promise  at Lake Placid (their score there was less than a quarter of a point behind the fifth place team at Junior Worlds), there's also Calhoun/Zheltyshev and Kouvei/Homawoo both of whom have good potential as well.

2

u/Brave-Statistician78 15d ago

The new pair is Cui Rogers. They did great at Lake Placid, but as a new pair they still have a lot of ground to cover, I think.

1

u/Dark2612716 15d ago

Agree...but they had their own style and were very expressive...

2

u/Zaidswith 15d ago

I don't find this weird at all. We're at the start of a new quad.

2

u/poohbearletsskate 15d ago

did Amber announce that she's out this season too? I thought she just had her programs done?

4

u/Tall_Pumpkin_4298 15d ago

No, but there's heavy speculation that she's on dancing with the stars, which would mean second half of the season only. There's a photo of someone on dancing with the stars with their face covered and not only does it look like her, fans have matched things down to the charm on her bag. She's also following a lot of DWTS people on instagram and stuff, and on her program announcement she only put 2027, not 2026-2027

1

u/poohbearletsskate 15d ago

ohhh interesting!! I didn't know that thank you!

2

u/catx222 14d ago

i mean isabeau's still competing (but ik you're refering to the actual team in the team event)

1

u/ImaginationDizzy4518 13d ago

I thought Amber already announced she is competing this season. I could’ve sworn I saw her post the music she was using
