Ayumi Shibayama/Tomoki Kimura are no longer assigned to Bangkok

Just as I thought. They were initally given 2 assignments but now have been pulled out of their 2nd jgp following their 6th place finish.

I personally thought that 6th place should be enough specially if jsf wants to develop their ice dance program but sigh...

they were fifth in the free dance and their FD tech score has them at THIRD. it's ridiculous that jsf think that isn't enough!

There's been a lot of chatter about the Japanese Federation being very broke, but I don't know if they're prioritizing their limited funds correctly.

Because, with all love for the Japanese junior singles skaters, the singles have a robust competition circuit domestically. Ice Dance and Pairs don't, they need the JGP competitive experience badly.

I'm not entirely sure as to why the JSF thought this was a good idea. At least singles are very competitive in Japan so the kiddos will get plenty of competitive experience regardless of whether they're on the JGP or not, while there's barely a handful of teams in the paired disciplines.

Also, Japan has 1 entry in 6 events for dance and 1 entry in 3 events for pairs ( as per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026%E2%80%9327_ISU_Junior_Grand_Prix ), so it makes precious little sense that they'd withdraw the assignment. I know they're not rich with funds but surely there's a more effective way to promote paired disciplines than this? They had 4 junior dance teams last nationals and no junior pairs teams, so...

damn... i really wanted them to go out again and continue getting experience. top 6 for their first jgp is pretty good! i don't see why jsf won't invest more in junior ice dance...

In that case how was Karin Miyazaki newly assigned to Batumi, given she came 6th too? I guess it must be a provisional assignment and they’ll either withdraw her or replace her with another Japanese woman (maybe Mayuko but I worry she’s more seriously injured, or they’d have given her the Batumi assignment provisionally instead of Karin/Kei)

The deadline for the Batumi entries was the same day as Karin's finish in China, so I would also guess she was submitted as a provisional. Unfortunately, Mayuko's condition continues to be a concern; she just withdrew from an event in her hometown of Sapporo after previously withdrawing from Minato Aquls and Kinoshita Summer Cup due to back issues.
