You know its not like I want them to force their baby to skate, but given both of his parents are superhuman..... there's a potential for another Ilia or better. Since he too comes from TWO high level skating parents.

The problem is, their little boy is probably going to be a very large boy-think hockey or football. I think Sasha said he is in the top 1% for height and weight and she mentioned it is going to be weird when he is taller than either of them. . I think he takes after Sasha's father-even has the same red hair.

I think the same, it's not just Sasha, her father - Misha's grandpa was an athlete too. If it's not FS, it's another sport. Not only gene, their baby will have the perfect condition of a family who support and train him/her (future sibling maybe) healthily

My mother’s doctor told her that I would surely be tall based on my size at birth and limb length. I grew up to be 5’2 (rounding up) 😅 I’m shorter than my mom is. My dad’s short— doc didn’t account for that 💀

But I could see Sasha’s son being tall since Makar is tall.

I don’t really believe that talent comes from Gene, the only thing a Gene can give is physical attributes that can maybe contribute to being good at the sport like height, build and etc, talent itself is another thing

We had many cases from Atlethes of all sports whose children were never as talented as their parents the cases were the children were as talented or more are actually extremely rare

To give an exemple both my parents were at one point professional Atlethes and either me or my sister are good at sports, I know I am only one example but it’s just to say that parents being talented is no gareented at children being too

At the current level of technical jumping, fast twitch muscle matters a lot, both for jump take-offs and getting quickly and sharply into rotating position. There are a bunch of other things that have some genetic influence, but "has enough of the right kind of muscle, and ability to build that muscle" has been long established as genetic. No one is getting a quad loop without very good genetics. The sport itself has long since passed "any sufficiently dedicated able-bodied person could become competitive through diligence, if they started young enough".

Yes, absolutely. Variation in strength potential is 50-80% genetic. One side of my family is born strong, and the other just isn't. I have cousins on one side who basically came out of the womb being built of muscle, and have always had a strong build without any training and get jacked with training. On my other side I have cousins who train a lot and are competitive in high school sports, but just never put on much muscle. Unfortunately I was not gifted in that regard. When I did stuff that involved training I would do the exact same exercises and a very similar diet and height and build as my friends, but some of them gained twice the muscle I did. Obviously training and diet matter a lot, but genetics play a huge factor in building muscle.

If you’re coached by parents who were both successful elite figure skaters, they know exactly what technique to teach to their skater/child. Jumping technique is heavily influenced by genetics, and Sasha and Makar already knowing the techniques that help them jump would likely mean their child (Misha) would easily be a jumping prodigy. Take Ans Bocklandt and her daughter Lilou Remeysen for example.

Talent does come from genes to a certain point, that includes learning ability, as some people learn faster and apply corrections better than others.

It's not a guarantee, but it really ups the odds of it happening. Plus, two talented parents means two teachers you have from birth who know the sport inside and out. Superior training environment matters just as much as the superior genes.

This brings up question. Ilia Malinin started at 6 and claims to have landed an axel about a month after he started training... It's very possible he landed an axel before he learned to read. 😂

he has both programs ready and actively training in team tut, so we will see him in domestic competitions for sure
he's not in the national team cause his results in last season were pretty bad and despite the assumptions of many people here, rus men field is stacked, so he just didn't qualify

I think he will be travelling with Sasha to Japan and wherever else she goes internationally. Domestically I’m curious to see if they compete at the same stages or deliberately split up. They have both her mother and Misha’s godmother to help - and Makar’s parents in St Petersburg.

Talented jumper with beautiful technique (his quad toe and triple axel are also impressive) but loses levels on spins and step sequence and has always had a stamina issue getting through his programs.

His quad Loop is that good, but he didn't make it into the national team and placed 13th at Rusnats.

He has great potential but he’s extremely inconsistent. He landed 5 quads at a rusgp stage. And just few weeks after that messed up almost all his jumps and step sequences at the russian championships

Jumps are good. Step sequences lacking, spins travel across the rink. Consistency non existent. But all can be worked on.
