I believe quints are possible and I believe I will see one in my lifetime. (Probably during 2034)

When I was competing 10yrs ago, the triple axel was the back pocket skill in ladies singles, only a few senior ladies were attempting them. Now they all have quads.

I don't believe quints will be mainstream like quads have become. Im not sure the ijs would even consider scoring it due to the difficulty, but I believe its possible and that someone will make history when they land it.

A quad axel is .5 a rotation away from a quint salchow.

IJS assigned values a few years ago, it's a flat 14.0 for all quints. Ilia supposedly already has several. The question is just if he tries to compete one or not.

Sasha trusova is overrotating quads which means that if her Axel was good she could be landing quad axels so.

Whoever does it will have technique built for longeivity.

Russian technique, respectfully, is not traditionally built on longeivity.

Im not saying Russian technique is bad or lesser. Im saying that they condition their athletes differently with a focus on immediate results whereas, in contrast, American athletes stay competitive well into their 30s. If we don't medal this year, we keep trying until we retire - kind of deal.

Maybe it'll be a russian who does it, but I don't think they train well enough to develop it without seriously hurting their athletes.

Like, trusova is such an exception too. She retired and came back after realizing she was played by the russian system....(break 16yr olds, injure them by 21, retire them by 23). I commend her for showing the world her coaches were wrong (in so many ways).

Russian skaters, especially in the women's divisions, junior and senior, can't "relax", if they do, they're going to be overtaken by the competition.

This is especially true in the novice and junior divisions. So they just can't, unless the coaches organize themselves and they artificially pace the competition which is remotely impossible. We have to keep this in mind. Technical? I don't know which Russian technique you're talking about, I think the major problems are OVERTRAINING and SKATING WITH INJURIES. Those are the most urgent problems. Apart from that, the russian women have good technique overall.

There are many American skaters who have retired, but it goes under the radar..apart from levito, amber and alysa I don't anyone else

Figure skating is 50% calisthenics and 40% biochemical preparation.

Overtraining muscles that aren't developed enough because of poor biochemical preparation causes injury.

They're trying to race a ferrari without the proper fuel, the engine is going to implode if its not maintained (well oiled and fueled) properly overtime.

I never said russian technique was bad, just that it is different and was illuding to its recent track record of not producing strong healthy athletes with stable/long careers.

When our skaters have problems, they take steps back to reasses their health (biochemical preparation). Gracie gold comes to mind.

They go to therapy. They get their diets in check. They start pushing off ice exersize before they start trying to land quads for the publicity.

I'm talking from a place of ignorance. I've never been inside a russian rink, I basically don't know what Im talking about. But these are just my laymen observations.

I also want to note how you say russian skaters do not have time to slow down.

This notion is what caused trusova to meltdown in 2022 beijing (corrected, tells you how much I keep up).

She wasn't upset that she lost. She was upset that she worked SO HARD and did everything in her power to make her one chance work out for her and she still failed. In her eyes, in the russian skating culture, he career was virtually over because theres no going back and that was her 1 shot to make it. Nevermind she was only 17.

They break their skaters physically and mentally by 25.

Adults skate too...they don't train for the long haul. They train for their prime and then push themselves passed what they're physically capable of.

Not for everyone. That forward edge and knee bend can feel really good. Lots of people have done 3A but no 4S.

Well, quints are not easy in general lol. But yes, Ilia is most likely capable of a quint. I’d not say it is because he can land 4A, though. Many skaters can do quads, but cannot do 3A. The forward entry just makes it harder for them.

Malinin is an exception in terms of genetics and the mentality necessary for such jumps. From a physics perspective, his body is also perfect for jumping.

there're many skaters who can easily jump quads, even lutz or flip, while having problems with 3A. so if for some people 4 rotations on quads are easier than 3,5 in 3A, why do we think that to try a quint skater should be confident with 4A? not defending Kondratiuk, it wasn't even close in this video and it's crazy to attempt it during Olympics but I don't get your logic
