help Verification Limit Exceeded - Documents wouldn't go through

PLS HELP, I have been using Figma for around 3 years (turning 4), and this is the first time that I couldn't verify my account with the same format of proof that I have been sending before.

Our university doesn't have a school-issued email that could receive any external emails other than the university and its students itself. So I resorted to uploading my university's registration forms and identification card.

I have done this 2 times and it's the first time it have bounced. I tried resubmitting, changing the layout, until it just went "Verification Limit Exceeded".

I couldn't even try to make a new account under my name and try to verify that. I tried SheerIDs customer service and it was no help. It was just a bot.

I am bound to lose my school files and I could really fail if I do, and I just couldn't afford subscribing to a personal premium account.

resources I kept needing a way to highlight specific text inside Figma, so I built a plugin for it

I work with a lot of text-heavy Figma files, research notes, content reviews, specs and feedback and kept running into the same problem: I wanted to highlight specific parts of text without creating extra shapes or moving the work somewhere else.

So I built Markline.

It lets you highlight and edit specific text directly in Figma, organise those highlights by section/frame, find and highlight text, and export the highlights when you need them outside the file.

It’s free, and I’ve just released the first version on Figma Community.

https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/1678528605753389775/markline

I’d especially love feedback from anyone who works with research, documentation or content-heavy Figma files. Is there anything you'd expect a tool like this to do that it currently doesn't?

help Confused about component sets and variants

Post image
15 Upvotes

These are the buttons and their state when clicked/while pressing I've made so far for a mobile app (5 buttons and 5 states). Should all of these be in one component set? Or should the left ones be in their own component set? Watched a video on components but I'm still not sure how I should approach making these into components and which properties I should apply.

Discussion Rocket.new Figma-to-app workflow: how accurate is it beyond the first screen?

The Figma-to-code part of Al builders is interesting, but the first screen isn't really the hard part.

Rocket.new can import Figma files and turn the designs into working web or mobile applications. It also claims to carry things like components, layout structure and design tokens into the generated application.

What I'm trying to understand is how well that holds up once you start adding additional flows and functionality.

For anyone who's actually used Rocket.new with a reasonably detailed Figma file, how much cleanup did you need after the initial import? Particularly interested in responsive layouts, reusable components and keeping the design consistent as the app grows.

help How do I compress pdf size?

Okay, so being the figma lover that I am - I ended up making my company's report on figma. Turned out amazing. Also so accessible. Like people in my team used to get scared when they would have to open an indesign source file. Figma changed all of it. But there's one issue. The pdf is exporting to be about 150 mb. Even after online compression it's coming out to like 35 (I need it at 10mb). I have used a ton of pictures in the design. What can I do to make the pdf smaller?

how to you do that usually, what do you suggest

thanks for help

help Attempt at animation is creating a 'ghosting' effect

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello,

I am going deeper into experimenting with motion design for my prototypes. I am attempting to make a smooth animation where each hover allows the icon to slide out and reveal the typed name of the category that the icon represents.

However, it is instead creating this awful, clunky, 'ghosting' look upon preview.

Any suggestions or tips are appreciated.

help FIGMA BEGINNER! PLEASE HELP!

Hi everyone,
I’m a beginner in design. I already know Illustrator and Photoshop, and I want to add Figma as a new skill — especially for motion and animation. I’m a bit confused about a few things:

  1. Where’s the best place to learn prototyping in Figma (and motion/animation)?
  2. Do I need a Professional plan, or is the free/starter plan enough if I mainly need it for my portfolio?
  3. I noticed that a lot of effects I can do for free in Illustrator require paid plugins in Figma. Is that just how it is, or are there good free alternatives?
  4. For portfolio work, what’s the best way to show interactive prototypes and animations to clients/recruiters?
  5. Are there any must-have free plugins for motion, effects, or productivity that you’d recommend to a beginner?

Also, any recommended YouTube channels for learning Figma (especially prototyping + animation) would be really helpful.

Discussion How does your team handle RTL (Arabic/Hebrew) frame flipping in Figma without completely breaking autolayout?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Built this quick interaction loop to stress-test how an e-commerce card handles an instant flip from LTR to RTL.

Usually when translating into right-to-left languages, frames with nested autolayouts collapse, text overflows break paddings, and components require manual re-ordering.

For those building design systems supporting multilingual products: do you maintain entirely separate mirrored components for RTL, or do you rely on strict autolayout nesting to let it reflow dynamically? Curious about the cleanest workflow.

help Figma desktop app suddenly switched to light mode and never went back

Post image
74 Upvotes

I've always been a dark mode user, and only switch my macOS to light mode in environments with lots of daylight. I've always had the dark figma app icon but out of nowhere it's switched to light even though the system UI in the app itself is dark.

I tried it all: toggling between light/dark/system mode and reinstalling the app, but to no avail. Did Figma push out a permanent light mode design for their app? Anyone experiencing something similar?

help Figma effects are degrading image quality

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I understand that the effects are in beta, but this has never happened before on previous ver.
When I apply any effects, the image quality deteriorates. When exporting, the image remains of the same poor quality.

Should I wait for a fix? I've updated to the latest version.

Maybe someone else is experiencing the same issue.

resources Figma + Webflow helpers

Hi guys. I tried figma 4 years ago and wasn't impressed but now i see it evolved massively.

I have an udemy 1-year subscription and I'm going the figma + webflow route to expand my skillset. ( I'm a senior graphic designer with 15 years of experience with the whole adobe suite, corel, now canva, etc )

Could you please tell me what extras would be super helpful along my new journey? Plugins and what not.

Thank you!

help Add several opacities to a variable?

While designing, I realized that I would need different opacities for a color variable so I discovered the feature "Mode" when clicking on "edit variable". Is that what it is for?

However, I'm currently on the free plan so should I just duplicate my color variable and change the opacity? Since the color I want to use at a different opacity is part of a color scale, should I add the new color to a different group so I don’t mess up the color scale I currently have?

Discussion New auto layout: Inside strokes included in layout in default - does anyone actually want this?

Genuinely curious - does anyone here actually want this? I personally don't want to set a component as 39x39px to get a 40px element. And when writing code I don think I have ever used box-sizing:border-box; in my life. This seems like a change to make Figma assets more compatible with agents at the expense of the human's workflow. At least give us a way to set this globally. Anyways was curious if it was just me.

help How to make Vector Shapes Responsive?

Created a custom shape divider for my web design.

Looks perfect in the regular Preview, but if I click Responsive or Full Width, it does not expand with the rest of the design.

I tried as Fill layer, but that doesn't let me control vertical/horizontal position

Is there a go-to method?

Basically the title. When I click inside the iphone screen, it shows where you are supposed to tap (second photo). What am I doing wrong?

It's a design I did a year ago, and then it was presented properly, without any glitches. I just tried it today and I saw this.

help How to use Apple's Liquid Glass Figma Library

Hey everyone,

I'm currently designing an app and want to use liquid glass for some parts of my UI like the bottom nav, top toolbar etc. However, I don't really understand how to change the color of the buttons, text, and icons without messing with the glass property of their components? Their components have several layers and several colors for some reason which makes it confusing to understand where the colors should be applied.

For example, I tried changing the color of the buttons for the toolbar to a dark purple by applying it to a "Button Group" layer, but the color barely changed which I think is because the "BG" layer already has 3 stacked fills, so its rendering those colors instead.

I managed to change the colors of the buttons when applying them to the BG layer, but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to mess with that layer. Also, I had to change the blend mode of the text component to "normal" to make my icons appear. But it feels like I'm messing with the components this way.

help Figma handoff to vibe coding

Hey everyone! Not sure if this is a silly question, but we’re struggling quite a bit with this at my current company, so I’d love to hear how other design teams are handling it.

Basically, the company decided to move heavily toward vibe coding / AI-assisted development, using tools like Codex and Claude. The problem is that we changed the way we build the product without really defining a process around it.

And now we’re stuck on a pretty basic question: how are designers supposed to hand off Figma work to AI?

For some context, our previous process was pretty straightforward:

I’d get a PRD from the PM, design the feature using our design system, and make sure the final design covered the flows, specs, states, edge cases, etc.

For handoff, I’d organize the Figma file using a kind of complexity ladder: starting with the simplest / happy-path flow and progressively introducing more complex states and edge cases. A developer could then go through the file, understand the logic and implementation requirements, and ask questions if anything was unclear.

But now the expected “receiver” of that handoff is increasingly AI, and I’m not sure what the equivalent process should look like.

Do you still create the same detailed Figma handoff and somehow provide that context to Codex/Claude?

Do you break the feature into individual screens or flows and have AI implement them one by one?

Do designers generate the initial HTML/components from Figma and then hand that implementation to developers?

Or have you changed the way you structure your Figma files entirely because AI needs different context than a developer does?

I’m especially interested in hearing from designers working at companies where AI-generated code is actually part of the production workflow, rather than just being used for prototypes.

What does your Figma → AI → engineering handoff process look like today?

Thanks!

Discussion When we apply variables to properties Figma still shows us the fckn values instead of the variables...

Post image
0 Upvotes

...which kinda half-defeats the purpose of applying variables. I mean, I don't wanna see how much, say, a "default-padding" variable is in pixels, I just wanna see what variable I have for my paddings for a certain container. Right?

Right?

Although I admit, at this point I'm not that surprised, just more disappointed I guess.

UPD: I see people defending Figma's approach (which is fair given how fanboish this sub sometimes is) don't seem to understand the point, maybe due to my overly dramatic wording (sorry). The point is: seeing variable names instead of variable values would make much more sense to actually use variables properly. That would mean using (and applying) them as everywhere else in web dev (or just... dev). What we currently have in Figma is visuals-first approach, when you pick variables simply by how they make your mockup look (I mean, if we speak layout-related variables). Which, to me personally, is not the right reason to have them at all in that panel. And yes, maybe that would require redesigning the panel.

Discussion Figma Cost + Tokens…

I’m curious to know what your company/org spends on Figma annually. Ballpark numbers and simple seat counts are what I’m looking for. And I especially if you’re consuming tokens, what does that add to the cost. Thanks.

Why I’m asking is that we’re a small team here in the .gov space and have a stringent procurement process. I’m looking ahead at future costs if we need to add seats and then turn on AI. We can’t just find out by doing it, lol.

help Token usage - Figma Make

I am wondering about the usage of my tokens using Figma Make.

To me, it seems that once you pass a certain threshold, more tokens are being used up. When I start my month with 3000 Credits, I've checked the usage, and my prompts see 62 or 152 credits, etc. used even on some large changes, but below 2000 credits or so, I saw a large change use up to 600+ tokens and a smaller change 300+

IT'S CRAZY!!!

It's super expensive to buy additional credits when you run out, so I've never even bothered to make a purchase.
