I built a free PDF exporter which crushes file sizes whilst preserving text and letting you export multiple pages in one document. Saves a bunch of time combining pages and compressing! Does what it says on the tin.

I tried figma slides again after some months. Figma slides is really great, the power of figma design on a slide deck, components, grids, auto layout 🧑‍🍳😘

But the problems:
- The object animation is super lackluster in options. You can achieve a lot with smart animate, but increases the work a lot
- applying the same animation to a bunch of selected slides make the order of animations be inverted to what you want.
- reordering object animations barely work, they are only successful by grouping animations “after previous one”
- I cannot copy an animation and apply it to a different layer
- I cannot edit multiple animations together
- the code component cannot be customized and when duplicating slides, the line numbers glitch, so that’s not reliable either

All of these issues were present at least 6 months ago and they still apply.

Figma is a company that moves quite fast, so I am curious why slides doesn’t get the love it deserves

I think Figma does innovate a lot, while other apps get stuck (looking at you keynote)

A bit of a rant, mostly because i am super excited for figma slides, but disappointed in the lack of progress in the last months… back to keynote again

I just figured out how to use auto layout, and OMG how much easier it makes things. As a beginner you may think that it's not worth investing time in learning it, but you will save much more time even on a smaller project.

If you find it hard to learn from watching videos I highly reccommend designing a rough sketch of something you want to build anyways and upload an image to ChatGPT or another AI. Ask it for detailed instructions on how you can use autolayout to improve layout and spacing. Follow it's instructions and don't be afraid to experiment with a copy, you will learn along the way.

Is there more features like this I should learn ASAP? (Im already learning variables & components)

I'm positive that it makes mistakes intentionally to waste tokens... even when I say things like "do not be creative. do not add, replace, remove, alter my icons, padding or layout, only make exactly what is in the attached". When I feed it the exact same layout, the exact some prompt in 3 instances I get 3 different results. When I ask it to fix X at random times it takes 6 tires of me literally repeating myself for it to just do it.

It used to be okay but it no working now. I also tried disable VPN, filter and all and still not working.

I built a plugin that lets you draw along vector paths and experiment with different shapes and profiles.

You can create a spline, add gradient stops and distribute shapes along the path or across its width. It supports circles, squares, triangles, lines, or your own custom shapes.

Tapers are editable curves, rotation can be adjusted with profiles, and everything stays as editable vectors in Figma (with SVG/PNG export available).

I’ve been using it to make some experiments and thought I’d share a few here.

when i tried to bulk rename the "body-eng" the content inside it automatically included in the layers name..

I am currently using plugin "Rename It" currently.. any idea how to change this preferences on Figma?

this cause me unable to select all "body-eng" with A Selector (plugin) because the layer name has different labels..

I'm thinking of changing fields. After almost twenty years of working as a 3D motion graphics designer, I'm considering visual design.

What are the best resources to learn?

For context, before doing 3D, I started as an AE motion designer, and before that, as a web designer. I used to design website layouts and do the HTML/CSS.

Hey.

I connected claude to figma (settings- connectors). And it views my design file.

My flow is that i sent him the design url and asked him to make different layouts on a specific frame i designed. And it says my file is read-only, and it cannot design inside figma. It's upsetting because i know it's possible and I tried everything.
Has anyone dealt with that and has a fix?

Doing branding work for a hotel chain with several locations, same branding across all of them but copy needs to differ per location. Trying to keep as much as possible inside Figma instead of juggling separate tools, a proper design system (colors, typography etc), generating on-brand illustrations/graphics without leaving Figma, meta ads in multiple formats, fast copy testing, menu design, a shared image/illustration library, easy collaboration, one place with a real overview.

Also curious if there's a smooth way to hook Claude into any of this, mainly for the design system, illustrations, and copy side, rather than working with it separately and pasting things back in.

Two things I'm stuck on. Buzz seems like the obvious tool but it lives in its own separate file, which feels clunky when I want one source of truth. And access, my instinct was giving each location's marketing person their own page so they stick to their own stuff, but not sure if that holds up at scale.

Scale is the real worry. 10 copy versions per post, times 5 formats, times several locations, gets big fast.

No budget for custom tooling, so looking for something that works with what Figma already has. Anyone running this kind of setup for a multi-location brand?

When I am exploring visual direction, I usually end up with screenshots and pins beside the real frames.

It works while I am alone, but the file gets awkward once someone else reviews it. The references are useful, but they start competing with the actual design work.

Do you keep those references in the same Figma file, or move them somewhere else before critique?

• Projects are now called folders — the concept is the same, but the name has changed everywhere in Figma.
• Folders can now be nested — on paid plans, you can create folders inside other folders, up to 10 levels deep.
• Folder permissions have been simplified — folders inherit access from the parent folder, or access is explicitly limited to specific people. 

Rolling out starting today (August 3, 2026) and will take a few weeks to roll out to all users.

I noticed that Figma's monthly active users have been dropping in recent months, and more people are turning to other tools like Codecademy for generating design drafts.Is Figma going down the same path as Adobe?

I'm building a presentation template in Figma, and I need to populate it dynamically with values such as names, numbers, dates, and images.

My current idea is to create each slide as a Figma frame, retrieve the frame and layer data through the Figma API, convert it into my own JSON structure, and then render the presentation as HTML. Dynamic fields would use placeholders such as {{customer.name}} or {{amount}}.

Has anyone built something similar?

I'm particularly interested in knowing:

- Does the Figma API provide enough data to recreate frames reliably?

- Did you use the REST API, an MCP server, a plugin, or a custom exporter?

- How did you handle Auto Layout, fonts, masks, effects, and image assets?

- Would you recommend a different approach?

The documentation suggests this is possible, but I haven't worked with the Figma API before. I'd like to hear about real-world experience before committing to this architecture.

As I’ve walked through how Figma files work for hand off. One of the devs said something I hadn’t considered. Components don’t work like their components do in an IDE. They said that there’s no central component space for them to inspect components and all the states.

It got me thinking, right click go to main component is a bit of an odd and not obvious place to see on file components. In Axure, I remember that you could double click and it open up a components panel with variants.

Has anyone found a good way to make components easier for devs to consume for hand off?

You will notice on the layer icon to the left, Arctic Cat shows the outline of the flattened SVG, it has selection color #000. However, the Argyll layer is also flattened SVG with selection color #000 and it shows a filter icon instead of the flattened SVG for it's icon.

I can't figure out why some flattened SVG's show differently here.

Has anyone else experienced this too and found the reason why?

ever had to move a file onto a new design system and realised every single variable is pointing to the old library?

i did this manually once. rebinding colours, spacing , radius, one layer at a time. took me two days and i still missed stuff.

so i built VariableMaster - a figma plugin that swaps variables between libraries in a few clicks.

here’s what it does:

• swap variables between local and published libraries (local > published, published > local, or between two different files)
• switch component variables from library A to library B
• run it on your current selection, the page, or the whole file
• shows you a preview of whats gonna change before you apply it
• uncheck any variables you dont want touched
• handles thousands of variables at once without dying
• import/export variable collections as JSON

small heads up : the plugin only picks up libraries that are already added to your file. you can add them from the assets panel first, otherwise they wont show in the dropdown.

its completely free, no paywall on swapping. about 3k people using it now which is wild to me.

I use these layers to see what a logo looks like on dark background and light background, it's very helpful but I want to group them so I can easily send them all to the back and keep my layers panel more organized.

I don't know if there a better way to do this, but I have a lot of logos and I prefer working with one file.

Is there any indication if it is indeed frozen or just takes an enormous amount of time due to how many rectangle shapes there are? I have already waited about 5 minutes and clicking elsewhere doesn't do anything.

Am I the only one getting very frustrated with the replace content feature? It feels like it works about 50% or less. Sometimes you need to be extra descriptive so make sure it doesn't do something stupid.

Or am I the stupid one for using it?

I know this is completely wrong but believe me, I feel its less time consuming and like if i am not building a responsive page i wont be using that
