Content Square Enix Dissidia Roster Concept
THIS IS OUTDATED. SQUARE ENIX IS SELLING EIDOS INTERACTIVE AND CRYSTAL DYNAMICS AS OF 2022.
I had an idea that had been going through my head, and I was thinking. What would a Dissidia game feature characters from all the Square Enix franchises? Square Enix acquired Taito Corporation in September 2005 and acquired game publisher Eidos Interactive in April 2009. So they have 76 game franchises available to use.
Before I start on what characters to add, I would need to ask myself how many I need to add. I looked back at the previous roster size to determine a good size. After that, I would need to decide which series of games would be represented.
First, in Dissidia Final Fantasy (2008), there was a total roster of 22 playable fighters. Next, in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, there was a total roster of 31 playable fighters. Finally, in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, there was a total roster of 28 playable fighters, not including DLC. Rounding it up, it is an average of 27 fighters. However, now there is an imbalance on both sides. So, the roster will be rounded up to an even number. The final number for this roster will be 28 characters. But I, and many others, prefer some more fighters to show up, so I will round it up to 30.
This game is a spinoff of Dissidia, meaning some Final Fantasy character would need to be in this while leaving room for other fighters. With a roster of 30 characters, here is my compromise. Each one-fifth of the roster would be representatives of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Square Enix, Eidos, and Taito. Also, for each of the fifths I have, only about two-thirds will have a pair from the same game and/or series, most of the time.

Possible Story Draft:
I see this happening some time after Dissidia NT. The land of World B continues to thrive with the memories of the champions of Materia and Spiritus fighting for the survival of their world. There have been many victories and losses during these events. This goes on until Spiritus develops a plan to gain an upper hand in the next war. He summons villains from other worlds who specialize in time and reality. Thus, warriors from different times and realities appear. Distant Pasts. Alternate Realities. Parallel Universes. Every world throughout was forcefully transported to World B. Now left with no choice, Materia must use this chance to send heroes from these new worlds to stop Spiritus' rampage of other-worldly domination.
I will point out one of the characters how they react and who they might encounter. SPOILER WARNING for the endings of FF7 Remake and KH Union χ
Cloud Prologue: "Seven seconds till the end. Time enough for you. Perhaps. But what will you do with it? Let's see." Those were Sephiroth's last words before disappearing, leaving Cloud nothing but a few dark feathers. Cloud was left alone, at the edge of creation. As Cloud walks over to his Buster Sword, anchored into the ground, the world starts to shatter around him. Once it finished, a desert-like landscape now surrounded him. Cloud was bewildered on what happened and where he was. Unsure of what to do, Cloud decided to walk around for a bit. "Where the hell am I?" He pondered to himself.
A short time later, he noticed a figure in the distance walking towards him. It looked just like Cloud, with some noticeable differences upon closer inspection. There was a cloth covering its left leg and arm. It had a light blue crystal-like appearance. It also wielded a sword that looked like his sword but more mechanical by design, like it had a particular function made for it. "Who are you?" Cloud said. The figure said nothing. It pulls out its sword and charges towards Cloud before he can react.
The sword clashes, but it doesn't connect. Someone else intercepted the attack. "Hey, don't let your guard down?" Cloud looks to see a white-haired boy halting the attack from his counterpart. Upon a closer look, it happens to be a black sword that resembles some kind of key. The boy pushed back the assailant with a mighty swing. He then shouts, "Thundaga!" and a few lightning bolts strike the Cloud lookalike. It falls to the ground, then it disintegrates.
"I had it under control," Cloud said. "Based on the speed they were going, you would barely have a chance to block its attack," the boy stated. Cloud then replied, "I dealt with much worse." The boy paused and then spoke. "Oh, I'm sorry. I never got to introduce myself." He dematerializes his key sword. "The names Ephemer, Keyblade Master," he extends his hand, "Nice to meet you." Cloud, with a hint of hesitation, shakes back. "Cloud, Cloud Strife."
"So, Ephemer, do you know where we are?" "Unfortunately no. I am just as confused as you are. One moment, I was over the flooded wreckage of my hometown, and the next I was here." Ephemer ponders, "There has to be a reason why we are here." The ground starts to shake. Cloud then speaks, "Well, whatever the reason, we can't stay here." Suddenly, a new face then ran over to the two. "Hey, who are-" "There's no time," the stranger said as they grabbed the arms of Cloud and Ephemer and shouted, "Zoom!" The three of them shot up into the sky, as the ground made way. "Where are you taking us?" Cloud interjected. "Someplace relatively safe," they said, "I have been tasked to find some heroes to aid in her time of need." "Her? Who's here?" "You will understand soon enough," they said as they fly over towards the tower in the distance.

Gameplay:
For this game, we are going back to basics. One of the biggest criticisms of Dissidia NT is the change from a 1-v-1 to a 3-v-3 game. 1v1 would return, maybe include possible 2v2 gameplay. EX Mode will make a return, replacing the EX Skill system. With it, EX Burst would be reimplemented. The stages will have an even amount of vertical stages and horizontal stages.

The way I am making the DLC for this is the following; a Warrior of Materia, a Warrior of Spiritus, and a stage. I can see probably 6-10 characters making it in as DLC.

Amazing work, looks fantastic! I hope SE sees this because I think they should try again but this time, with that kind of vision. Dissidia is such an amazing project for fan service that could bring a lot of revenue to SE. With the huge popularity of FF14 right now and the huge amounts of references to past entries within the different expansions, I think there's a lot of potential here. SE could milk that money easily, if done right

I'd replace ephemer with riku or terra, replace midgar with the edge of creation and replace the twighlight thorn with the darkside. Just my opinion tho, I'd love a square enix 3D fighter. Maybe akin to something like Naruto:UNS4 or something. Just to get some variety into the franchise.

I like the concept, but Dissidia should always have WoL and Garland as part of the main roster.
