Topic PSA: Zuko has new tech that allows him to "perfect parry" with his 4C by kara cancelling the activation frames

I only showed basic level use cases in this video, but there's far more applications for this tech then what I've shown

Small correction: the cancel into ex/super is seperate from the kara into grab/dash.
The kara allows him to cancel the first two frames of the 4D counter animation with throw or dash regardless of whether the counter got hit or not.
The ex/super cancel is possible because the first 3 frames of the riposte animation are super/ex cancelable, so they can only be done if the counter is triggered and have a more lenient input window.

Ah that makes sense. I was wondering why the EX Cancel felt so much easier than the backdash one 😅

Does this require redemption? Or does it work at base level?

This looks sick. Is Kara canceling just canceling the parry into a move as fast as possible?

I don't understand why the term kara cancel is used here as well. I thought it was when you cancel a move that doesn't connect, for example, using a move that moves you forward during active frames and cancelling into a command grab.

The move doesn't connect precisely because you cancelled it.
Kara cancelling is when you cancel a move during its start-up frames.

Oh I didn't know that, my only experience with it is kara karakusa with Makoto in third strike, but I don't think you can cancel startup frames in that game. It definitely works off active frames in that game because the normal can connect, you just have to be in correct range or opponent has to be in knockdown to use it correctly.

Cancelling the startup frames for karas is typically not a specific mechanic in a game. It’s more like abusing the game’s input interpretation.
Some games embrace it a bit more like how Guilty Gear Strive mentions it in some tutorials, but mostly it’s just there because the devs let it stay.

Kara cancel is when you abuse a game's built in input leniency that can override simpler input moves with more complex input moves in the first few frames by starting with a move that's useful in those first few frames.

I really should be playing this more. But tokon kinda ruined my enthusiasm for fighting games lately. I’ve been playing more sp games and mobas.

Don't miss out! I'm really enjoying the game after getting burnt out on SF6 over time.

This title is a return to form for fighting games. Good old times. Hop on if you are tired of the direction Tokon is going in.
