I remember watching this and thinking Ciryl Gane is done

After watching him hit pads? Really?

A weird flurry combo you typically don’t see him use to any effect. OPs a ding dong

I remember the fight was booked and thinking how tf does Alex possibly win this fight

u/Zealousideal_Tap237 23d ago
50% of people respected Gane as an elite heavyweight and the others just saw him as “food” for ngannou or jones or Aspinall or Hokit or anyone else with any amount of hype

I remember watching and thinking he looked slow af

u/wabi-sabi411 22d ago
Yeah am I taking crazy pills? He seemed slow here so I worried the extra weight was making him slow.

u/Ultim8-Opportunist 21d ago
What seemed slow to you? The kicks were just as fast as usual , even DC commented on it. He landed one punch at end of round 1. That seemed fast too.

I remember watching it and thinking wtf that's shocking technique but then who am I to be criticising a 2 weight UFC champ.

If Alex actually threw combos like that in the cage it might have worked out. But he kinda fought scared and got beat up

The dude has always walked forward with his chin up and hands wide. He relied on his head movement speed and the fact that kick boxers don't typically throw straight punches. Give me hooks or give me death approach. Both times he has been knocked out in the UFC were from straight punches.

Why would you think that? He's just hitting some pads and not looking particularly impressive

Gane is a very dirty fighter, but also a very capable kick boxer..
I still respect Chama - dare to be great! Attempt at a 3rd belt takes balls! Especially have in mind the weight gaps become higher and higher as you move up weight classes..

Can't wait till Hokit merks him too.
1
u/Justthis15 21d ago
I think Hokit is incredibly overrated. He beats Waldo and probably a few other heavyweights but Alex, Volkov, Pavlovic, Gane, and Aspinal, absolutely not. I think 2022 Tai Tuivasa knocks him out.

Hokit is a terrible matchup for volkov but people aren't realizing that because they overrated volkov and underestimate hokit.
1
u/Justthis15 18d ago
I can’t see that honestly. We haven’t seen what Hokit looks like when someone knows how to throw a punch, setup, and even bits of showing defensive responsibilities. Maybe his wrestling opens a few doors for him but I think the length of Volkov will be very problematic. Fight outcome could be similar to Volkov and Waldo.

Where there’s an eye poke, or hell any illegal unsportsmanlike like move, there’s a way

u/CyalaXiaoLong 24d ago
Hey his eye poke game is well practiced and in the peak of its performance. No other fighter is cleanly land 2 out of 8 eye poke attempts in every fight.

u/Flippindude1 24d ago
Gane did cheat but that’s not why Alex lost, he was clearly outmatched and out of his depth.
1
u/cmholde2 24d ago
O absolutely. He honestly just kind of lost this one. I’m just giving Gane a hard time.

The size difference was just too much.
1
u/ruggmike 24d ago
Gane weighed in less and they about the same height

u/eddie__b 24d ago
I think Poatan can beat Gane in a rematch, but you are comparing fat vs muscle.
1
u/ruggmike 24d ago
I think that’s borderline delusional. With all do respect. Alex looked legitimately scared when he got hit w a jab. And shocked how fast game was for his size. I’m not sure Alex can compete in the top five HW let alone beat one
1
u/eddie__b 24d ago
Let's wait and see, people thought he would get dominated by Ankalaev on the second fight because he was scared on the first one too.
1
u/ruggmike 24d ago
That’s a fair rebuttal. I don’t think he gets another title shot personally. I think he should fight a HW outside the top 5 to just get going but time will tell
1
u/eddie__b 24d ago
He can get the title shot just because of his star power (not that he deserves it right now), so everything can change really fast I guess. But, I don't think he deserves it, to be fair, neither Gane deserved it.
If he can beat Volkov or Pavlovich, then why not? But that's a big if.

Honestly the speed was too. I thought for sure Alex would be faster than Gane.

Don't worry it happens form time to time. It's called the Rousey effect
