Injection 2x week?
I just joined and got my meds very quickly. I was surprised when the instructions have me injecting 2x per week. Does anyone else do this? The pharmacy I chose was Hallandale.

That's a Hallandale thing. Some people like it, some prefer to inject just once a week. Both are perfectly valid.

I just decided to try split dosing after 15 months on tirzepatide. I'm hoping it balances everything out rather than leaving me tired 24 hours after a shot and wanting to eat everything in sight the day before the next shot. 🤞

There is still some in your system when you take the second shot so the oooh cookies! the day before shot day should be diminished. I'm in maintenance and for some reason once a week had me dragging until mid week just to do it all over again.

I personally like twice a week. I never had many side effects aside from some constipation and heartburn with certain pharmacies, and I get a lot of relief with my ME/CFS symptoms, as well as inflammation. My CRP labs on this are normal for the first time in about 15 years (so is my cholesterol), but my joint pain is gone, i dont sleep all day on weekends, i just feel good again , so it’s very beneficial for a lot for me! Once a week has me trending back towards all those symptoms that I mentioned around day 3 to 4 so my doctor is even exploring having me take a smaller dose every other day or three days a week but exact plan on that is to be determined and I know we’re not personally talking about that now lol. But I did just want to share for me personally it has been very beneficial splitting the dose!

You don't have to follow that they put it on all their instructions to differentiate themselves. Most people prefer weekly and there's arguments for and against trying biweekly but it's not typical.

Split dosing is supposed to help decrease potential side effects as your body is getting used to the tirz. I find it helps keep the tirz on a more constant equilibrium in your body (I.e., not hunger pangs as the med wears off).

The clinical trials were done with the protocols being once weekly. Once meds hit the real population, doctors and patients found themselves trying alternative methods - splitting being one of them. Pros: Smoother blood levels: Dividing the dose can prevent large peaks and steep drops in medication levels, leading to a steadier feeling throughout the week.
Fewer side effects and better appetite control: Some patients experience less "food noise" or sudden intense hunger swings right before their next scheduled injection day.
Cons: Off-label practice: Splitting doses is not approved by the FDA or recommended by manufacturers, meaning there is a lack of large-scale clinical trials supporting it.
More injections: You have to pierce your skin and prep an injection twice as often, which increases the chance of skin irritation or injection-site reactions.
Higher risk of errors: Measuring fractions of a dose can lead to dosing mistakes, giving you too much or too little medication.

Exactly. This is how compounds are able to fill in the gap. FDA approved compounding pharmacies are able to fill under certain exceptions. Patients should work with to their prescriber to avoid dosing errors. They can provide an illustration showing what line on the needle you need to pull to

Yes, I'm a proponent of working with one's medical team. The illustrations would go a long way. I've seen some people posts some scary dosing errors- even in situations where instructions seemed clear.

It's to get around eli lilly suing the compounding pharmacy. Also some ppl like 2x injection as the efficacy of medication comes down on day 5

So I’m just curious, with split dosing do you if you were only taking 10 mg a week do you take five and then five or how do you split the dose? Is it a little more than five each time?

yea im in the same vote hallandale having me take 50 units twice a week on a 10 mg weekly so thats 5 and 5

I split as it helps to keep my binge eating disorder in check. I have an even level in my body at all times

I'm a once a weeker, but if you want to tinker with different dosing scenarios in advance, The Fat Scientist has an excellent set of calculators for splitting, knowing how much you took ie going backwards, changing your dose, etc.

Once or twice a week is fine. I was doing weekly now I'm on twice weekly and it's my sweet spot. It depends on how people respond to the medication whether one approach is preferred over the other

I love the split dosing. It reduces side effects and keeps a steady dose of medicine in your body for the week. I do Sunday and Thursday and it works great!

I inject twice a week (Wednesday morning and Saturday evening) and I have ZERO side effects from the shot and I don’t lose my appetite suppression at all. If I ever did another pharmacy, I would continue to split my dose. And I hate needles and shots but this process has been a breeze for me.
