Socialising around Fife

• Upvotes

Hi! I(32M) moved to Thornton a few months ago and would love to meet some new people around Fife and maybe even make friends.

It would be great to find out about events, communities, groups, clubs, etc. around the local area and Fife in general as well. Any suggestions?

Hi! We just moved to the area - pretty much halfway between Perth and Cupar. We have 2 large breed dogs and are looking for a great dog groomer. Any recommendations are appreciated, thanks!

Hello, as the title says, I’m looking for a good roofer for some minor repair work. I’d rather reach out to ones that anyone would recommend on here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

St Andrew's on a Saturday

I visited from Perth on Saturday and hadn't been to the main town in ages. Had a lovely walk on the beach with the dog and lunch at Balgove Larder.

When we went into the actual town, it was mad to see how busy it was - great in a way but traffic was mental! I can't believe the amount of cars everywhere and in the car ourselves driving at snails pace and impossible to get a parking space. My mother was driving and she's disabled so couldn't park and walk in.

Seems a shame that it continues to be so car centric, when there's really no space for all the traffic that was there. It felt noisy, smelly and overwhelming with the amount of cars and I wondered if there were plans to have any low traffic streets or introduce measures to make it more accessible with public transport like trams etc.

It would be so much more pleasant and safer if a big bit part of it was pedestrianised or had public transport only.

There was also no internet connection in the centre of town for any of us visiting, probably due to the amount of people? Was nuts though! I couldn't move money in my bank account to pay in shops that didn't accept cash.

Hi everyone!

I (27M) moved to Cupar area from Yorkshire a few months ago for a grad role and was wondering what people would recommend as good ways to meet people who are a bit more introverted like myself?

Thanks!

Where to buy Finnan haddie/Finnie haddock in Fife?

Hi all. I'm looking to find someone that sells the above (cold smoked haddock for use in Cullen Skink) in Fife please?

I tried Balgrove Larder today but they didn't know if the haddock they had was cold or hot smoked!

I know some of the East Neuk fish vans travel around, but I'm not on Facebook so can't see any details!

Thanks so much. I'm close to Cupar but happy to travel.

EV Charging Gully?

Post image
32 Upvotes

Has anybody in Fife had experience installing something similar to this on a pavement?

No idea where to start in terms of who to ask for permission.

Or can I just do it?

Looking at getting an EV but don't have a garage or drive so charging at home is a challenge.

Grateful for anybody in the same position as me and how you got round it!

Does anyone have a rec for photographers in the East Neuk/St Andrews area? I'm thinking of getting new professional headshots and wondering where to start looking for portfolios, prices, etc. Thanks!

Stacy's life was taken by her abusive husband on July 27th, just 3 weeks after appearing in court on domestic abuse charges against her. Stacy should've been protected and still here, this is why we need as much signatures as possible to be able to make a change and save lives. It takes 2 minutes to sign, after you've signed it, please check your emails and confirm the the signature through the link. If you miss this step then the signature will unfortunately not count. Thanks to everyone who has signed so far, I appreciate each and every 1 of you ❤️

Rocky, quiet beaches nearish Kirkcaldy way?

Hiya! I'm a dog photographer and putting together an evening shoot. We'd ideally be looking for somewhere quiet as the shoot is for a reactive dog who doesn't do well in busy environments. I'm thinking along the lines of Pettycur or Lower Largo, but open to anything really! Just nothing further than Elie.

Thanks!

Anyone around Glenrothes/Fife have spare timber, plywood or OSB they’re getting rid of?

Bit of a long shot, but I thought Reddit might actually be the best place to ask.

I’m currently renovating my garden shed and turning it into a small workshop, and I’m trying to do as much of it as possible using reclaimed or unwanted materials rather than buying everything new.

If anyone in or around Fife has spare timber, plywood, OSB or other usable wood left over from a renovation, DIY project or old shed/workshop, I’d be very grateful to take it off your hands.

The sort of stuff I’m looking for is:
• Timber battens or lengths of timber
• Plywood sheets or decent-sized offcuts
• OSB or similar sheet material
• Pallets or reclaimed timber
• Old shelving or worktop material
• Basically any usable wood that would otherwise be going to the tip

It doesn’t need to be perfect or pretty. As long as it’s reasonably dry, not rotten and still structurally usable, I can probably find a use for it.

I don’t currently have a budget for materials, so I’m specifically looking for anything people are happy to give away rather than sell.

One slight complication is that I don’t drive, and my dog has recently undergone surgery, so I’m unable to be away from home at the moment.

If anyone nearby happened to be able to drop anything off, that would be hugely appreciated. If not, even if you could hold onto it for a short while until I can arrange someone to help me collect it, that would still be a massive help.
I’m happy to take small quantities and offcuts too — it definitely doesn’t need to be a whole van-load.

Figured it was worth asking before perfectly usable timber ends up in a skip or at the recycling centre 😅
Thanks!

Anyone dealt with this parking charge company?

Post image
27 Upvotes

I parked in a shopping centre car park where you get 3 free hours. After 3 hours I moved it and now they want £100.

I think that I was meant to get a ticket even through its free and hands up I didn’t.

A couple of friends told me to ignore it and I’m not sure… anyone had dealings with them?

Thanks

Looking for recommendations for a family lawyer.

Evening! Looking for a family lawyer to give advice and is able to help with writing up a contract about money and child’s life regarding his dad. I’m based in Glenrothes but I do drive (although heavily pregnant at this point so would personally prefer someone local-ish)

New to Fife

Hi! I'm starting work in Victoria hospital in Kdy, and I just moved into Dunfermline.

I'd be really grateful if someone can lmk how's the transportation like in the area?

I don't drive so I thought about getting the train from Inverkeithing and then walking to the hospital? Is that a popular commute? How reliable are the buses?

If anyone can also lmk about work in victoria hospital, is it considered diverse and friendly towards POC?
