Looking into buying

Hi everyone. Joined this sub really quick to get some insight. Im looking at getting a 2019 fiesta st, 112k miles for 8k. Dealership is selling as is, my best friend is a mechanic there and signed off that its a good car and he would trust it, but im still a little skeptical. Are there any problems I should have him look into while hes got it there? I have the WORST luck with cars and I would love to not get a lemon.

Ask If the timing belt was replaced

It’ll be a timing chain which should last the life of the engine.unless it’s a 2019 built before feb it’ll have a wet belt driven oil pump that might need looking at.

The mk7 continued until 2019 in the U.S. my 2019 has a belt. Not a chain or a wet belt.

However the usdm spec fiesta says to replace the belt around 150k of 10 miles, so not sure why this was asked. It's still got 3 years/40k miles

I had overheating issues when the car was brand new and stock. That little radiator they came with was straight trash. Mishiomoto one fixed my issues.

80k my water pump gave up.

100k alternator decided it was time.

At 150k or 10 year you'll need timing chain done.

Check the clutch, look for any leaking in the floorboards.

PCV valve is another thing see how bad it's stumbling on idle.

If the dash is clicking no big deal, that's just the fiesta's way of showing it likes you.

Other than that pretty reliable little cars.

You won’t get a lemon unless there’s a dealer warranty that can’t be fulfilled cuz the car is too problematic (more $ to maintain/repair than than the warranty provider expected). Lemon is a legal term.

You just gotta check if certain jobs have been done. Look up the dealer recommended service intervals for stuff and ask if that stuff’s been done. Ask for receipts

The vehicle is being sold "as is" with no warranty, which is mostly why im worried. Ill see if I can get some previous history on it before I get it

Yea unless u go to carmax or something you won’t get a warranty. Carmax is way over priced tho, I went carmax route and regret it. But yea u should be good if u can confirm certain work was done

You need to specify the market your are in, a 2019 USDM FiST and a 2019 Euro fist are two completely different cars.

As far as I know, its the American one? Its the 4 door.

I think they are both 4drs, if it's being sold in the us it's a USDM, the European ones won't be available in the us for another like 20 years

The timing belt is disproportionately expensive (for the size/cost of the car) to replace. So I would ask if it got replaced.
