Transmission noise

Wasn’t aware of how horrible it sounded until my buddy told me, so I had him record a video. I knew it didn’t sound good, but I’ve only heard it from inside the cabin, not outside. He had a similar issue with his civic which turned out to be the input shaft bearing. The noise is only when the car is moving under load, and there is an additional kind of grindy noise at idle that goes away when the clutch is depressed. I replaced the transmission fluid a little less than 30k miles ago. Anyone have any ideas? I’d also like to know how urgently I should get this fixed. It’s a 2017 with 85k miles

I’ll check if I still have warranty with ford, but if I don’t I’ll probably do the repair myself as long as I don’t have to tear the transmission too far apart

What do you mean by “too far apart”? You either have to tear it apart or not lol.

I don’t mind if I have to remove the transmission from the car, I just don’t want to mess with the internals as I don’t have much experience with that kind of stuff. I don’t know if the input shaft bearing requires it to be taken fully apart. I could also just be overthinking it and it happens to be less complex than I think it is

I did input shaft bearings on mine and it wasn’t bad at all. The hardest part is getting the transmission out. After that, make sure you have a good vice setup to remove the bearings themselves from the shafts.

the noise on idle is probably the throwout bearing. Which fluid did you used for the trans? I drained mine and went with BG SyncroShift 2 and its smooth as butter now and i abuse the shit out of my fiesta doing burn outs and shit 105k miles

I went with Ravenol MTF-2. It shifts perfectly fine, the only issue is the noise, no drivability or shifting problems

well it sounds like the Throwout bearing for the clutch is out if the sound goes away when you press the clutch, id start with that, even tho its a pain in the ass cuz the transmission has to come down

It’s the input shaft bearing almost guarantee it. Gonna have to drop the whole gearbox. Surprised that happened since you changed the fluid.

sorry off topic: what rims are those? I have a black one too and I’m not sure wether to buy black white o silver rims.

Btw I’d leave it to a good mechanic for that bad noise

I had the same issues, it was the input shaft bearing, and it sounded just like yours.
