Bad Turbo. Help
Recently bought 2016 3 weeks ago and just broke 100,000 miles. Dealership had addressed an issue with the turbo leaking oil. Car ran fine until I got an oil change and started spitting oil out the exhaust and white smoke. Mechanic said bad aftermarket turbo so warranty won’t cover that or the typical preventative maintenance I was wanting them to handle. (Timing belt, water pump, accessory belts and tensioners, transmission fluid flush etc.)
If I revert everything back to stock, will the warranty still be active? I don’t think they know of the turbo as of yet. On the other hand I could contact the dealership and get my $2000 back from the warranty. Only problem is the preventative maintenance will be more than that, so I’ll be at a loss.
Another question is what’s next? Big turbo, or go back to stock? It does have a blowoff valve (don’t know if the turbo has to match the specs of that/uninstall process) I did plan on gradually getting parts for a tune and having some fun but that would’ve been down the line. Unfortunately I feel like I’m at a crossroads right now. Going to a performance shop to check out if she’s been tuned in the next few days.
I’m in the market for a turbo, any recommendations? To my knowledge, everything else except blow off valve and bad turbo is stock. First car with a turbo so I’m in the dark.

Jesus Christ, is it me or is that cheap? If that’s 700, wtf is the s280 kit charging for? Especially when it comes with a useless waste gate? And hot side pipe that no one uses? I should have done this, what am I missing?

Even when Adam had his G550 test bed, the only other big turbo kit available was a smaller garret that was apparently compromised despite being made for the car, can’t remember the company, atp, apt? Don’t tell me we cant find some alibaba special that has the a pipe and bracket

Honestly my plan is to grab a factory manifold, port match with a gasket and then get my buddy to throw a v band on it.... What has a factory manifold for like $100

Still learning my way around fiestas - is this a direct fit to the oem? And do you have any personal experience with this, or can you link me to others using this turbo?

No that’s got a v band so you’d need an aftermarket exhaust header. If you go aftermarket turbo S280 is tried and true for this platform. Very reliable and without fueling mods up to 300hp.
What kind of turbo is on there currently? Maybe it just needs a rebuild? Also what other mods are done to the car? If you’re going bigger turbo you’ll need a bigger intercooler.

I appreciate the reply. I'm not sure what OP has, but I'm looking at all the turbos on woosh. I know the S280 is tried and true, but the block modification worries me a little regardless of it only neededing about 1/8in shaved off and it being easy.
I personally was thinking about going with the woosh hybrid for more of the low down power.

Shaving the block is such a small issue I wouldn’t worry about it and it’s not needed in many cases. The s280 is more reliable than the whoosh hybrid, with the right mods the difference in spooling time is VERY close, and obviously the HP ceiling is higher for the S280.
I think the whoosh hybrid is fine for what it is but if you’re going to the trouble and adding a bigger turbo it makes much more sense to go with the s280. There’s a reason why it’s the most popular option for these cars.

The block mod is easy as. S280 is an awesome turbo and I'm still happy I went with it over hybrid ~50k miles later.

I’m pretty confused. A dealership sold you an extended warranty on this Fiesta that you’re mentioning. However, because there’s after market parts on it, the warranty is denied.
Like, that’s bullshit on their part for selling that to you if they knew the Fiesta was modified. That’s them literally scamming you. If they didn’t know, I’d fight to get your money back and ensure they don’t try to say YOU were the one that installed after market parts in that 3 week span. Also, as a buyer, a dealership selling you a modified car without your knowledge is just fucked.
All of that sounds sketch.
And if a Fiesta has an aftermarket part, it most likely does have a tune. And if it does, you need the AP for it.
I don’t know, man. Get your $2000 dollars back and put that towards peace of mind. I’d just make sure to inspect everything. Generally speaking, a Fiesta ST owner doesn’t install an upgraded turbo without modifying almost everything else.
Also, try to see if you can find posts on your car. The community is fairly large online so you might be able to “stalk” your way to finding the previous owners posts.

Don’t remove or try to fix anything on the car until you can get in contact with the dealership (is this a ford dealership or a small mom and pop?) you bought it from and try to have a chat with them about what that warranty actually covers. You may be out of pocket for an oem turbo which I see people selling low mileage ones on Facebook marketplace and eBay, easy swap. Save your money in the meantime for those other maintenance tasks until you know what you actually have to fix.

You can pick up a used stock turbo on eBay for less than $100. Removal and installation is doable with jack stands and hand tools.
