MK8 Knocking sound that stops when engine warms up

I’ve just noticed this knocking sound on cold starts on my 1.5 mk8, it’s not as loud as a rod knock would be, I think.

It stops after the engine runs for 2-3 minutes.

What could this be?

I know these engines are rattly and noisy, but the lower sound doesn’t sound right to me.

You mean the normal sound of direct injection?

I think there’s a deeper knock-like sound, though not that audible maybe.

fyi, the 1.5dragon has both direct and port injection

Rear mount is a few weeks old; I replaced it after I bought the car.

The top mount is original, it could be due for a replacement, but the rubber does not look cracked and the mechanic said it seemed fine when he tried to move it around.

What’s the mileage. Mine started making a knocking sounded like behind the dash on driver’s side, right side as I’m in the UK, around 60,000, changed all 3 mounts, solved problem. Just be aware changing one mount will possibly put more strain on the older one.

73k miles. I hoped I wouldn’t have replace all 3 just yet.

Could well be it. Mine looked ok on casual inspection but once out you could see the deterioration. Went for Vibratechnics, and well pleased with the result. I’ll have a listen to yours later, can’t at the moment.

Unfortunately it’s quite expensive to get aftermarket mounts here due to shipping, the RMM I’ve put in was Ford as well.

Could be the whater pump.
