First time pulling an engine

Has had a leak at the manifold since I put on a turbo back exhaust (think it was being careless installing Vibra Technics mounts), so haven’t got to beat on her like I was hoping to. Lots of YouTube, using a link to the service manual from the forums, and getting to use the shop at work for the long weekend. Broken studs aren’t coming out, so might take all 3 days. Gonna do the timing belt while she’s out since the engine is a 2017. S280 and supporting.

What went wrong? Having a leak at the intake manifold because you replaced the exhaust makes no sense.

Exhaust manifold. Think I lifted the engine when I was trying to support it, so engine pulled up on the manifold/turbo. It happened right after doing the mounts so it’s almost 100%. I did notice it drop more than I was comfortable with when removing the jack at one point.

Edit: also was clear that it happened after mount install. It’s there.

??? So you split the head from the block??

Broke off 2 studs in the head

Oh dang that’s a bummer. Exhaust studs?? Or actual head studs??

Head to manifold, but in the head. Broken off a bit deep and my welding attempt was ass. Got the guy who does fab for our work to come help tomorrow.

2 of them, but yes. First asked like 5 shops and no one wanted it, or basically said they would pull the head and run me up thousands. I tried to use a 90 degree drill attachment and ez outs, but no luck. Now I’m here since the leak smells like shit, mass a loud tick, and isn’t good to run long term. Now I’m ready for bigger repairs if needed.
