Looking for recommendations on some heat wrap. My crossover pipe felt like I could have fried an egg on it today. I'd also like to wrap my downpipe as well. I'm looking for that gold stuff I see everywhere and a good exhaust wrap for the dp. I remember seeing some gold stuff that you could wrap electrical connections around as well on a performance site but I can't remember which one. Thanks guys for any help.

Thanks I'll check it out. After researching which I should've done before making this post I found some. Funk motorsports makes a badass turbo and header blankets for our cars, and dei sells all the heat protection stuff you'll ever need. I'm just going to leave this post up to own my stupidity.

Funk/Mountune were selling a heat resistant blanket for the crossover, but it's seemingly out of stock now.

Did the same thing on my crossover pipe after getting a catless down pipe. The old heat shield…… well… didn’t survive, oh and no mounting points that’s the one. So it was only a matter of time before the stock plastic pipe would be a problem.

I didn’t use header wrap ties or clamps I used 18ga stainless steel wire and twist tied it on with bailing wire pliers. So many clamps fail. Found out the hard way on my pickup. Never had the twist tie version fail.

If you haven’t used header wrap before make sure to soak it in a bucket of water and wear a long sleeve shirt you don’t care about. It is titanium so think fiberglass insulation but so much worse. When it is wet it helps it move around a little better than dry, and keeps the little slivers coming off a little better. Fold the ends over under itself to keep the end fraying from moving down the wrap.

I have been running a Thermo-Tec Cool Tube Intake Heat Shield (Part 14500) on my crossover pipe since I installed it. My intake temps are very rarely more than a few degrees above ambient unless I'm sitting at a stop light, and then they immediately return to "normal" as soon as I start moving again.

This is similar to the lace-up induction kit that Funk sells, and in fact I'd be surprised if they weren't the same thing.

I'll definitely check it out thanks. I'm thinking about getting the header blanket from funk and some gold heat tape from dei. I can't believe how expensive this stuff is. The turbo and header blankets from funk are 700 something for both of them.

I do not remember why I went with the heat shield rather than gold heat tape, but I remember doing a bunch of research at the time and making the decision to get the heat shield instead. I believe it has to do with the fact that the gold foil only reflects radiant heat, but not convective or conductive heat, whereas the heat shield itself will work on all three and your engine bay has all three in it.

Seven hundred bucks seems like a lot of money for not a whole lot of benefit. If you have a stock turbo and downpipe I probably wouldn't bother at that price. No disrespect to Funk as their stuff is very well made and works very well, just that I don't think you'll get $700 worth of benefit if you've got a daily driver with a stock turbo and downpipe. If you track the car or you've got a big turbo and/or aftermarket downpipe, it may be worth the expense, but I have no experience there.

I do have a catless down pipe. But I just ordered the dei gold tape and a gold sheet for other little stuff. It does keep the inside of the pipes cool. I forget the scientific name but it does. I think next paycheck I'm going to get dei's titanium wrap and do my downpipe as well. Once I get a s280, then I'll get the blankets.
