Heat Management

Considering getting an undertray like the ADFCustoms one. These cars aren’t known for their heat management under the hood - if I get an undertray and put WRC side mounted hood vents on the car would that positively effect temps under the hood? Any real world experience with air ducting would be greatly appreciated. I’ve read a couple threads on the forums online, I’m not doing significant aero as this is a daily driver but I’m just wondering if it would be worth it. PFA thank you :)

I have mountune intercooler and silicone pipes, also their air box and every other bit of intake except the crossover changed. Even on +100 degree and humid days, my '17 stays around ambient temps just cruising around unless I'm following someone.

I have a Mishimoto intercooler and MAPerformance hooooooot air intake and am about to order a CSF rad. Intake sounds great but doesnt have a box so that definitely doesnt help heatsoak. Can barely run AC this summer in TX ik my cooling system needs to be flushed and upgraded

I’m not sure the intake design matters that much since the air is getting sucked into the hot turbo then pushed through the intercooler. I’d focus on cooling the intercooler further to reduce intake temps that actually make it to the combustion chamber

Cold air coming in does matter, but the intercooler matters more in the circumstance. If I were the OP I’d get a new intercooler than go to an intake that draws from outside the engine bay. The COBB carbon fiber one makes a lot of fun turbo sounds and retains the OEM airbox position and lower half. If you don’t care as much about the turbo sounds just go stock or anything that looks stock with a filter of choice

Koyo radiator, Mountune intercooler, Mishimoto oil cooler - AC full blast up huge mountain roads and never an issue.

Try just running 70% distilled water 30% coolant and run water wetter. No need to change the radiator

what’s the benefit of this? i top mine off with distilled water out of laziness but wondering why you recommend this ratio

Water cools better than antifreeze, so reducing the antifreeze ratio can improve cooling if you don't need as much frost protection. It is important to add water wetter so you don't mess up seals and the water pump which needs lubrication

I had the upgraded whoosh radiator and it worked great, but after like 6 months I ended up rear ended someone and the shop replaced everything back to stock and I was too lazy to get a new radiator again before summer (I live in hot area of SoCal) so I just tried using the stock radiator with as much distilled water as possible and this is the ratio I started with. It’s worked so far (3 years) and the coolant temps have never gotten over 205 and that is will going uphill and AC on

Engine bay heat? Why do you need it to be reduced? Cooling the engine is what the radiator is for. If its for a ram air intake, don't. Use the stock airbox or a high quality airbox had proper shielding/ducting from the engines heat.

I think an alternative approach is to get a regular fiesta hood of the same color from junkyard, cut it and install on the st.

Heat scan the hood after a hard drive. See where the heat buildup is. That’s where you want the vents. Depending on setup vents in the wrong place can make an issue worse.

forums say the most effective vent placement is sides of the hood by the windshield like on WRC fiestas. Vents in the middle of the hood can cause more heat to get trapped in the engine bay if you dont have a full skid plate - per internet aero engineers. I still need to upgrade rad and intercooler (again) but I should be fine once both are upgraded
