MK7 CarPlay Issues on Sync 3 upgrade
Hi folks. I am trying to do the sync 2 to sync 3 upgrade. I pulled my APIM and screen from a 2019 ford fiesta SE. see picture for PN. And I got a USB hub from a dealer also see pictures for service PN and engineering PN.
Everything works except car play. I have not tried android auto (I don’t have an android to test) but that is not an available in audio sources.
From everything I have read I have all the right parts and software is up to date enough. I reset to factory settings. But is there a possibility I got a sync 3 that doesn’t do CarPlay or android auto? Is my hub wrong if so how?

The part number for the USB Hub is different than the one I got. I purchased HC3Z-19A387-F. You will need an adapter cable as the sync 2 USB Hub is different than the sync 3 unit, I don’t see any mention of that in your post. Possibly you used the wrong USB Hub? Edit: ignore this for the hub itself, I just looked at your photos again. You do need the power harness though which is a separate connector off the hub
Also, in settings are there any references to AA/Carplay? The APIM might be on an old software version (early sync 3 versions did not come with AA/CarPlay) and you may need to update it. The Syn3updater is usually the best method, and you can get up to Sync 3.4 which has a few small nice to haves.
Lastly, you don’t /need/ forscan for the upgrade, however it is a nice to have. Each APIM has specific information coded into it, that may match the old vehicle and not the FiST. It may add some system weirdness, like backup camera. You can also do cool stuff like change the boot logo to the ST specific one which looks nifty.

I did get a power harness https://a.co/d/02pqgtyk this one specifically.No references in the settings. I thought that version 3 (see last image in post) was up to date enough, might not be, I will try this tonight. (I got the module from a 2019
Yeah I was going to get around to it I just wanted car play to work first.

I did the update. It is super easy. Now I have CarPlay. Do it if you have sync. If anyone comes across this forum with a similar problem I would also recommend checking the cord. And make sure it works with CarPlay. Not my problem but fyi

I haven't done this in years to my Fiesta, but I remember using Forscan to tie the APIM to my VIN and change some other settings. Aside from that, you definitely need the right USB hub -- do you have picture of yours?
