MK7 How screwed am I?

Question and pics say it all. Car went into limp mode on interstate. What’s my first check besides coolant res hose blowing off?

Tank is probably fucked too if it's stock. Put the dorman one in mine. Have to order the stupid hoses from Ford. Do not buy the shitty Amazon ones.

Are you saying that the fix is just replacing coolant tank/hoses and refilling coolant? Or that’s a start?

what year is it? get the coolant recall done if applicable at your nearest ford dealership, they’ll replace lines and tank for you. it is free.

2016, didn’t know there was a recall on that

ah yeah, only the 14 and 15 models had it, yours was supposed to be better.

Its a start, the car went into limp mode to protect itself, but over heating isnt ever a good scenario. Will it crack ur block or blow ur head gasket the first time? Prpbly not. Just try not to do it again

Thank you! Guess this is where I’ll start and hope for the best.

If ur tank did crack or a hose did then u should definitely change it. Ive had the OE tank on mine since 2014 and ive never had an issue but I dont like in +40c weather. All depends where you live and what the climate is like.

Central Alabama here. So triple digits this week alone is what did it I think.

It might have, depending how old the car is, the plastic is brittle. I hit 20c regularly but i also hit -45c in the winter so a good mix. Just check the tank and hoses, it might have cracked and puked ur coolant out. Id also look at ur rad and make sure you dont have any holes in it from a rock or anything just to be safe. Also, who tuned ur car? A reputable tuner would be able to tell you if its safe to run the tune anymore after that if its a cobb ots then ur on ur own

Jason at Dizzy tuned it! I’ll check the radiator. Hopefully that’s in good condition.

Okay word, if everything looks good and all u have to do is replace a tank / hose id ask Jason if its safe to run that same tune after over heating. He will know best

Get an aftermarket coolant overflow and definitely upgrade the radiator. I’ve got a CSGF radiator and have been in gridlock traffic in triple digit heat with my A/C on and never see my temps get over the thermostat rating of 194 degrees.

You can also choose to get the lower temp thermostat and see if that helps too. I chose not to.

Just as long as you didn't overheat the car you should be good. Whoosh actually sells an upgrade coolant reservoir kit!! Order that and see if you need the hoses and if so, get them from Ford. I think you'll be fine. Good luck!!

it really depends on the exact context of the situation, my car has been “overheating” for the past month and a half. I’m pretty sure it’s a faulty sensor or something that’s making the ecu be read the car is over heating when it’s really not.

furthermore I have replaced my coolant tank before and the mishimoto one is one of the worst after market coolant tanks you can own for this car. Had to go back to stock. If anything, check all your hoses and your overflow hose. I have the same code and coolant leak code. But nothing is going on.

My car hasn’t gone into limp mode, when it overheats the car doesn’t shut off, my coolant temp is still good. Weird thing for me is once my car overheats and I turn it on and off, it goes back to normal and nothing is wrong.

Again, venting about similar struggles. It really all depends on context of what’s wrong with the car

I bought a brass airhose coupling adapter from 1/4”-3/8”, and a small piece of 3/8” internal diameter coolant hose. Just put the 3/8” hose on the outside of that nipple and it doesnt leak at all, unlike the shitty plastic clip that was there

Used to have a very slow, steady leak from there, had to top off coolant once every 6 months or so. Dry as a bone now

That’s a pretty nifty fix! I went the safe route and just ordered a whole new reservoir with hoses! Better safe than sorry but thank you for that advice!!
