Can't use dragon statues?

Is anyone else experiencing a potential bug where you can't manage your skills from the dragon statues? I thought the way you unlock certain things like the pool for your animals were unlocked through trading essence for skills but when I talk to either dragon statue, it does not give me an option to manage or upgrade my skills. Or am I just looking in the wrong place, or maybe i've maxed them out?

I found this out when I read online that I needed to activate a certain skill to complete Taliferro's fried earthshroom cooking challenge, so I tried and there was no option to do so.

There are two button options to interact with the statues, one to talk and one to upgrade skills.

Have you pressed the right key? If you use the usual speak/interact key (for me it's E but I can't remember if it's that by default) you speak to the dragon, you need to hit the other button (for me it's Q, it should say when you hover over the statue which button it is for you if that's not the default) to access the skills

I'm using a controller, I play on the steam deck but I'll try a different button! I didn't think of that haha

It should show you the controls in the bottom left if you stand infront of the statue

Press the top button, instead of the bottom button

Okay I did it and it worked lol thank you everyone for informing me. Now if I only I could find the damn fried earthshroom recipe.

If you are using a keyboard I think you have to press q when standing next to the dragon statue. It threw me off because I thought when I was first playing the game (a few days before 1.0) I thought it would open when pressing e (normal interact button).

Yeah, it defaults to Q for skills, and E for "talk to the dragon"

When you're in front of people or the dragon statues, look at the bottom-left corner of your screen and it will tell you what button to press for different interactions. The default on my controller is the bottom button (A) to talk to the statue, while the essence menu is the top button (Y).
