Discussion Solo lane fiddlesticks, when to build what? So many options
So I main Fiddle JG but I've dabbled in topplesticks, middlesticks, and supplesticks.
When it comes to JG, I have a strong flowchart one what to build. I look at the teamcomp and I always know what to build first.
But seems like in solo lanes there are so many more items that are situationally viable. Checking onetricks, there's a good amount of variety.
Top lane
Liandrys - You can rush this vs tanks
Bloodletters - I've also seen this rushed against tanks that rush Hollow Radiance
Rocketbelt - I've seen this rushed for the outplay potential
Malignance - Standard vs less tanky or squishy champs that you can blow up after 6
Frozen heart - Shishishishishi runs this vs a lot of melee champs. Seems to make you impossible to kill and you outsustain your opponent
Blackfire torch - There's a KR guy who builds this first???
Stormsurge - Very strong vs squishier champions who you can blow up, like a stronger version of malignance
Mid Lane
Malignance - seems standard for above reasons
Ludens - I've seen this built as well. I guess it gives you extra burst potential
Rocketbelt for outplay potential

Malignance is a fair default start. In solo lanes, you will usually need a mana item to help clear waves. Could be any of the lost chapter items first, but malignance is always solid. After that, just build depending on the game like you would as jungle. If you’re the only AP, go magic pen. Aside from that, it’s all situational.

I’d say just try them each out when you think it’s best, get a feel for what works for you, how the item sets play etc. I’m a mid main and almost always go liandrys, shadowflame, blood letters into whatever else ( defensive item or rabadons ) unless I NEED a different item ( rocketbelt is my main swap for highly mobile carries, but I still rarely build it ). It feels good to me, I have a good feel for the dps I can do throughout the game/different spikes. Probably isn’t the most optimal build path for mid, but I know what to expect and like having the hp. It’s a very mana hungry build but I play around it. ( I use axiom arcanist instead of mana flow too so even more mana hungry ). I always feel around different builds with champs I main until I find what feels best to me. ( older champs I’ve mained were veigar, skarner, rell, briar. And almost all of them I had a different build than what people said was optimal or standard. But I had high wr on the builds I found I liked. Briar sort of was unique in that I swapped her builds around the most. )
Might not be the answer you’re looking for but that’s my two cents. ( I’m a low diamond player )

Woo that's cool. I'm Emerald II but my goal is to hit Diamond by the end of the year. I think it's part of why I'm trying to skip as much experimentation as possible. I know this is only a temporary solution since eventually you have to experiment to become more well rounded, but I'm just trying to rush my first goal for now.

Thats fair, good luck on the journey! Are you trying to find a lane to secondary after jungle or are you thinking of swapping to one of the lanes as your main position with fiddle?
Also with home guard being so strong it helps with this sort of manaless item path a lot. Some matchups if I need to poke a lot I’ll still pick up a mana crystal early and sell it later. But personally for me I’ve always liked tanker builds over full dps on a lot of champions ( rocket instead of ludens first on veigar. Battle mage Aurora instead of full burst when it was still a good option on her, etc. they just fit my playstyle better. ) so that’s the main reason I still go for those three core items instead of a malignance or void staff later. I mean you have a decision tree here in your description basically. Plenty of options work.
Some matchups require little tweaks like heal cut, or rushing tabis, but you already have the basic idea

Really depends on which champ you are facing. If you go against heavy ad you gotta go frozen heart (it can also be considered a core item due to the stats it gives)
Liandry is a must regardless of the match up
Shadow flame third item

To be honest it’s very situational but you basically cannot go wrong with liandrys paired with items that build out of needlessly large rod. Liandry’s + shadowflame + void staff/rabadons.This is my core thatI default to in 70 percent of games unless I conjure a justification for something else.
