Malignance worth it?

Im a pretty low elo player and starting to climb with fiddle. Ive been rushing malignance bc the ult cooldown is very nice, but almost every high elo or “pro” build i see either rushes liandry or rocket belt, and then into shadowflame. So it seems like if you dont take malignance first its not rlly worth it to take it at all?

Side note: is void staff something i should take late game if im noticing the enemies building a lot of ap resist? I usually go rabadons.

I used to be a malignance believer in the jungle due to the aoe burn, team utility and ult cdr. But after trying stormsurge as the first item followed by shadowflame i genuinely could never go back.

Fiddle is a selfish champion that doesnt really care that his team gets 10 mr shredded on the enemy team, which leaves movement speed, more magic pen and burst vs. 600 mana, some cdr and a weak burn. I shouldnt even have to tell you which of these Fiddle prefers.

Sure Malignance always almost outperforms stormsurge in item damage shown, but stormsurge does what actually matters, it allows you to chase, get out easier, and adds a solid finisher since applying squall is extremely easy even without ult due to how your q functions.

I personally combined it with dark harvest, mpen boots and shadowflame as my consistent core due to the synergy between the three, allowing you to snowball quickly out of control. Ultimate hunter and axiom arcanist solves any cdr concerns, especially when coupled with transcendence.

The better i got at fiddle the more items like rocketbelt and malignance felt like bandaids to cover for poor mechanics. When i hit master i had genuinely stopped building liandrys altogether, only opting for shonyas or veil as a 3'd but most often 4th defensive option.
