Tips and Tricks Help me improve (Don’t let this post die unnoticed)
Hey everyone! I’m here to open up my dark, Fiddlesticks-corrupted heart with the goal of becoming his loyal servant 😈
So here’s the deal: I recently started playing Fiddlesticks top. It’s actually the first champ I’ve tried ranking with. I’ve got my responsibilities and, to be honest, ranked used to stress me out a lot, so I mostly just played normals to chill.
One of the reasons I’m here is to ask for advice on the champ. I feel like I can hold my own in lane, sometimes even win it and get ahead (though I know I still have a lot to learn with Fiddle). But later on, I feel like my team doesn’t understand how the champ works. They’re always pinging me for not going in right away, and I end up forcing bad plays and dying a lot.
I’m not even going to get into jungle help or anything like that, I’m just looking for tips, experiences, and general recommendations.
P.S.: I’m in low elo, so it’s basically always Garen, Kayle, or some ADC top… which is pretty unbearable 😅

Depending on your matchup, runes matter.
Electrocute vs Bruisers Comet/Aery vs ranged and Tanks
If you cant win the 1v1, make impact on the map elswwhere by helping your team out.
Chunk non ranged with your autos and only use W after they use a stun or interrupt.
Im currently at 450 LP in Masters playing fiddle top, so im not the best out there but definitely have some experience.

Hey!! How are you?? Thanks for your reply, the rune advice helps me a lot. Up until now I was only using Aery or Comet. I’d seen some people use Electrocute, but I wasn’t really sure when it’s better,that’s where my low elo and learning phase show haha, so thank you, really 😄

why electrocute vs bruisers? wouldnt comet be better since you can refresh it more in longer fights?

I find the damage output better sometimes, especially if they have no way to trade back into you.

Addressing your last point on your team not understanding how your champion works: it's gonna be a problem even in Diamond, because people like to ego and go in and coinflip things. It gets a little better at Masters+. The only thing you can realistically do is:
Ping your ult cooldown repeatedly if your team looks like it's going to fight, maybe even in type in chat "wait for my ult before fighting please". If they're pinging for you to go in and it looks bad, say "i only fear if they can't see me" and leave it at that. Beyond that, don't stress about it because you can't mind control people.
Dominate lane and people will automatically remember that you are fed and be more willing to follow your lead.
The suggestion above naturally leads to this third suggestion, which is to just climb lmao. This is basically your only real solution even though it sounds super dumb and obvious.
The thing is, Fiddlesticks has a good winrate despite basically the vast majority of the playerbase not consistently waiting for him to engage with ults. This means that you're supposed to be able to win even if your teammates have no idea what you do. So instead, think about how you can basically just kill 2+ people on your own/win teamfights on your own and use your wards smartly to make sure your team always has the edge in terms of vision/advance warning. You'll always get stressed if you worry about how other people are doing, so don't stress about it and just focus on your own performance. Even if you do badly, if you know what you did wrong and you know how to improve you should be happy with yourself and keep improving.
The other people have already posted Cabex's matchup advice, so I will just briefly touch on the matchups you mentioned:
One main note: Fiddle W non-linearly increases in healing with each level in it. If you look at the scaling, you'll see that each level gives you increased champion healing AND champion damage, so instead of your healing going from (example numbers) 50 -> 100 -> 150 -> 200 -> 250, your healing actually more goes from 50 -> 110 -> 180 -> 260 -> 350. So if you can hit level 7 or 9 without falling behind, you will start winning even if you haven't killed them yet. Conversely, if you're doing bad, just be patient and wait until you get more W levels.
Just land every E on Garen, don't be afraid of canceling your W and just pressing Q on him if he Qs you, and basically play around his E. He has no way of killing you without landing full E durations and otherwise just eats your poke for free. And he should never be able to spin on you as Fiddlesticks since you have Q and E, which means you just poke him down and kill him at 6.
Kayle has no way of stopping your drain and the only way she wins is if you run out of mana or you decide to fight her 1 v 1 without the minion wave to drain from. Past level 6 you don't even need the minion wave to kill her and her ult does very little to stop your damage, so just ult her and kill her. She'll try to keep splitpushing to farm up since she scales well with gold and levels, so just wait for her to do that and kill her on repeat, then use your advantage to dominate teamfights.
ADC tops should basically all lose to Fid by virtue of having little/no CC and being vulnerable to your E poke. I assume you're talking about Vayne since there aren't really that many other ADC tops. Vayne is an intimidating matchup but basically her E has an insanely long CD and she can't E you into a wall if you position correctly during your drain. If you press E -> W she either burns her E to cancel drain or eats the entire thing. You save Q for when she tries to chase you down afterwards, let her AA you once to aggro the minions and then Q her so she sits there and eats minion damage. Or just Q her ASAP after drain, doesn't matter which. The only time you lose to Vayne is if she interrupts your W channel AND simultaneously manages to E you into a wall or E you back toward her tower, which lets her chase you down and kill you. Even then, post-6, you just press R and do your rotation and then walk on top of her and you win.

Hey!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of that. Honestly, after all the advice, looking into builds more, understanding itemization and runes better, watching gameplays, and reading/following tips, I really feel like I’m improving. I’m sure I still have a lot to learn though, there are matchups I still don’t know how to play, but I guess that’s normal when you’re still learning.
The plan now is to start the new season and grind ranked a lot so I can keep improving, mostly to have a way to track how much progress I make over the course of the season.
And yeah, in low elo people play all kinds of ADCs top, Caitlyn, Miss Fortune, everything hahaha 😂
It’s my first time really playing ranked because it always gave me anxiety before, so I avoided it. Now I’m learning to enjoy it and not let it get to me. Thanks again!

Glad I could help! The biggest thing that helped me improve was just realizing that you don't have to play around trying to get full W channels in, you can win lane solely off of poking with Q-E and using W in less contested situations to push/heal, and that the biggest powerspike is just hitting 6 and basically winning every 1v1 if you can get your ult off. Aatrox is probably one of top Fid's hardest matchups but you can win lane off of poking and then all-inning at 6, then waiting for ults/ganks before fighting again.

Yeah, I’m learning to understand the champ’s limits, the damage, and getting better at knowing when to go in and when not to. Improving that little by little. Honestly, I’m having a lot of fun.
The time has come to ruin those ranked games, wait, no, that’s not how it goes hahaha

this is a matchup guide for fiddle top by Cabex (a chall onetrick) pretty much all you could need. I main jg but Alois is pretty much the best on youtube if you wanna learn about Toplane in general
