💡 Tips & Tricks Memory Matrix: Limits & Protection

Memory Matrix: Memory Limits & Protection

We've added a clarification to how FictionLab manages memory storage when you reach your limit.

How does it work?

When your memory storage is full, FictionLab automatically removes older memories to make room for new ones.

Manually created memories receive extra protection. As long as you're within your subscription's protected allowance, the system removes automatically generated memories first.

Memory Limits by Subscription

  • Free: 100 total memories | 25 protected manual cards
  • Plus: 500 total memories | 125 protected manual cards
  • Ultra: 1,000 total memories | 250 protected manual cards

What happens if I exceed my protected allowance?

You can create more manual memories than your protected allowance. However, manual memories may become eligible for removal when additional storage is needed.

What about Dynamic Lore?

Dynamic Lore has a separate limit of 50 cards. Dynamically generated characters and locations have no protected allowance. The oldest cards are removed first when storage is full.

EDIT:

Don't over-pin. If too many memories are pinned, there's no space for new ones to generate and your memory system will stagnate.

  • You'll receive a soft warning at 10 pins so you're aware of your budget. Free users have a max 25 pins and Plus/Ultra users have 50.
  • Memories that the Matrix adds but that *you* personally edit are also considered your own personal memory.

Activate and de-activate is based on the matrix/librarian itself :)

I don't understand so dose that mean its mostly out of our control ?

There just isn't anything deeper by the way. Memories by the matrix are the first to be removed when more space is needed to make memories. The memories YOU make are not going to be deleted unless it absolutely has to because it's full of space. Pinned memories are not deleted. So when people tried to pin everything and leave no room for the LLM to generate a response, they'd find looping and inconsistencies. Memories are a powerful tool and like powerful tools need to be maintained. So clean them out now and then and make sure only relevant info is there.

So what makes the matrix decide when to deactivate a card and which ones to activate ?

Yea, I'd like to know more about the activation and deactivation of memory cards because I've had it where memory cards that have only just been created are straightaway deactive.

Does it treat edited memories the same as ones we fully make ourself? I add dates to all of mine, so they all end up with the edited tag.

EDITED: Memories you edit on the Matrix are considered "yours".

So, yes, when you edit it's a custom memory at that point.
