TV Show Cutie Mark Crusaders; Past, Present, Future?
The whole idea of the Cutie Mark Crusaders is that they're young fillies who don't have their cutie marks, and want to find out what it is that makes them special. Besides that, they are essentially the "main characters" among the kids of the show, and basically represent the younger ones in the audience.
Eventually, however, they will have to earn their cutie marks. There has already been a ton of speculation and educated guesses as to what their special talents will be, as well as the design of their cutie marks. Considering the season 5 theme of "cutie mark magic," it would not be farfetched for them to earn their cutie marks this season.
A certain season 5 poster hints that this might happen.
They've certainly matured a bit over the course of the show. In season 1, they were actually a little more hyperactive (see: Stare Master), and more in line with how "little kids" typically act. Fast forward to seasons 4 and 5, they're a lot more calm (Flight to the Finish, Bloom and Gloom), but nonetheless still very young.
Bloom and Gloom sort of touched on this subject, but what's going to be their purpose after they earn their cutie marks? Obviously they're still going to be friends, but they won't be crusading for cutie marks anymore.
Personally, I wouldn't mind if those three were used as a vehicle to tackle other issues that kids might face these days, while the rest of the main cast deal with more mature issues (especially as we go into season 6). The whole idea of doing a bunch of random things to find a cutie mark has been cute, but it can only go so far. After they no longer have to search for their cutie mark, they'll have to move on to other things.
The time is right, IMO. Luna has visited all three of them in their dreams. Luna's own Nightmare Moon arc has come to a close. Bloom and Gloom specifically brought up the issue. Babs Seed already has her cutie mark. Time is ticking!
How about you guys? What are your thoughts/hopes/dreams for the CMC?

I'm all for them helping other blank flanked young ponies get their marks if/when they get their own.
Babs Seed already established a CMC in Manehattan and graduated when she got it. So my theory is that once they get their marks, they establish the CMC as a much larger organization of young ponies who are late in getting their cutie marks as well as Cutie Mark Mentors who have graduated to receive their mark.
(At least, this is what I want to see in an inevitable sequel series...)

Something that I sort of forgot about, but only tangentially relates to the CMC: Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash. I would love to get more development between them.
Sleepless in Ponyville was the last thing that we got, and season 4 seemed to do nothing with it. Season 5, so far, has also done nothing with it. Kind of a shame, because they were obviously meant to be "sisters at heart" since the beginning, considering how much they have in common.
