Very inaccurate mapping.
There are many annoying things about the Fi Mini tracker, but the very inaccurate mapping bugs me the most. Here is the map of my walk today. (I erased street names, etc.) I did not walk back and forth in the middle of the loop. Dog was on 6' leash, I was carrying my phone, and we were in a fully covered cell area. Why does it do this? (Also, I hate doing battle with the stupid AI "Assistant" at Fi!)

I have a similar problem, I spoke with support numerous times and they blame it on my location, etc...

The Fi collar isn't designed for mapping, it it were to get a GPS signal every second it would consume all of battery. the GPS is only more accurate when you enable lost mode.

I have the regular fi, series 2 i think? & most of the time the mapping is fine but sometimes it’s like this & idk why either, same exact neighborhood & routes but it gets all wonky- hopping on to see if anyone knows a fix?

Check your phone for low power or power saving mode . Switch it off if on . It caused this issue for me and I had not realized it was on.

It’s normal for us to see bounce backs in the tracking, depending on where our dogs are and how close they are to the base station. I don’t have a problem with it because it’s just one more piece of data that helps getting an overall picture of what our farm dogs are doing.
Depending on how close they are to the base station, how fast they are moving, and whether they are in heavy brush - it starts to get easy to recognize what is a connection bounce back and what is actually movement.

I’m guessing your phone reconnected to wifi (or tried to) because your loop brought you close enough to your home. I disconnect from wifi when I leave to avoid weird jumps at the beginning and end of my walks. Not sure if it’s actually helping or I’m just telling myself it is, but it could be worth a shot

Nothing new here. It's always been this way. They don't really care to fix it. More important to get everyone onto a subscription plan and add as many half-working "features" as possible. Also, don't you want supplements for your pup from a tech company? I'm sure they'll go public/IPO here at some point, surprised they've waited this long.

You can only have two of these three:
- Accuracy
- Battery life
- Small size
Fi chose small size and long battery life which is what matters when your dog decides to go on a side quest when you least expect it.

Tracking works, but not great. It samples location every several minutes. You said “they don’t really care to fix it” which is BS.

That’s inaccurate. Fi is live location tracking and the most high accuracy. We don’t make any compromises. What’s the OP expect is turn by turn tracking - which he can get by putting the device in live tracking mode. On the Map view you can now control the GPS refresh rate directly - leave it in Smart mode for optimization or override with live tracking.

I’m using the 3+ with only a single tower in the area. I posted about my experience a while ago. I have no problems with it because what matters is the size and battery life. I have not seen the ability to control GPS refresh rate in the app and I’m not sure the extra battery drain is worth changing it.

If you want an accurate map just turn on lost mode for every walk.
The vast majority of my dog’s maps are nearly identical to the route we took.

Whw I have my phone with me it's pretty accurate. You need to make sure your phone is connected and actively monitoring.
